Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Please Say your Tehillim on Shabbos

BS"D

Dear Aneinu Members,

This week we start learning about the building of the Mishkan. Although currently we are not able to build a Mishkan or a Beis Hamikdash, Hashem asks of us to make a place for Him to dwell in our hearts, and homes. Just as a mother wants to leave the room if her children are being rude to her, or fighting and being unkind to each other, Hashem also finds it painful to be in a heart or home in which He doesn't feel welcome. How can we open our hearts and invite Hashem in?

When we daven, are we aware that we are standing before the Master of the World, or are we thinking about all of the things we need to do in the next few hours? How would you feel if you were having a conversation with someone and they kept looking at their phone and texting, never once looking at you or paying any attention to what you were saying? Can we take just a few minutes during the day to really focus on Hashem and how we want to have a real relationship with Him?

When we have to make an important decision, do we ask ourselves, "What does Hashem want me to do?"

When we go shopping, do we think to ourselves, "Does Hashem want me to wear this?"

When we speak to someone, do we make them feel respected and appreciated? Do we recognize the tselem Elokim in that person?

When we eat, are we concious that we are eating in order to have the strength to serve Hashem, or do we just want the pleasure of eating?

Even before we go to sleep we can have in mind that we are sleeping in order to have the strength to serve Hashem the next day.

The possibilities are endless! Hashem gave us so many mitzvos that give us the opportunity to connect with Him on a constant basis.  Let's try to live a life of of Kiddush Hashem, and show Hashem that we really care about having a close relationship with Him. Just maybe He will feel welcome, and decide that it is time to come home.

Please remember to say your Tehillim this Shabbos! As the days are now much shorter, it is perfectly fine to say your Tehillim on Friday night. You may check the Shabbos Tehillim spreadsheet if you are unsure which kappitlach you signed up for.
