A previous Halacha Yomis noted the Mishnah Berurah's view that an individual davening in a separate domain near a minyan does not have the advantage of tefilla b'tzibur unless he can be seen by the minyan. What is considered being seen? Must all ten men see him, or is it enough if even one member of the minyan can see him? A. Sefer Piskei Teshuvos (55:26) infers from the wording of Mishnah Berurah (55:54), "so long as some of this group can see some of that group," that it is not necessary to be seen by everyone. Rather, it is sufficient if even one member of the minyan sees the individual, and certainly if he can be seen by the Shliach tzibur that is even better. However, it is important to have a clear view of the face. The Aruch Hashulchan (OC 55:20) explains that for this halacha, the face that is the most important. This is because the Shechina is present at a minyan, and the primary place where the Shechina rests is on a person's face. We know this from Moshe Rabbeinu. The Torah records that Moshe's face shone from the Shechina (Shemos 34:29). If one is standing behind a lattice or if one's face is partially blocked by branches and it is not clear who is standing there, it is questionable if the individual is halachically connected to the minyan (see Kaf Hachaim 55:76).
