Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Almost hit a child on his bike
From an Aneinu member:
I was driving down the 6300 block of Monticello about 5:30 pm this afternoon.
At the alley near Devon, a child (I believe he was under 10) rode his bicycle from the alley directly into the street. He didn't stop.
IT WAS A NES I DIDN'T HIT HIM.
Cars going down the alley need to stop and check traffic before they merge into the street.
Kal v'chomer a bike rider. There were parked cars on the street that made him even less likely to be seen.
Yes, he was wearing a helmet. But that wouldn't protect him from chas v'shalom a vehicle. BH I was driving at a slow speed. I slammed on my brakes when I saw him, that split second of possible calamity.
Parents - I implore you. Safeguard your children. I question if any child should be riding bikes in an alley. But if they are, they must stop and check/look for cars before crossing the street, just as they would if crossing the street on foot.
