Dear Friend,

Chodesh Tammuz is a month that highlights the value of boundaries. We see the damage caused by breaching these boundaries—the boundary of time in the case of the Golden Calf, and physical boundaries in the breach of the walls of Yerushalayim. Both of these events occurred on the 17th of Tammuz. As women, we build the walls of our homes and mark time with our specially designated mitzvos of challah, family purity, and candle lighting. We use boundaries to enhance spirituality and meaning in our lives and the lives of others.

Please join the OU Women's Initiative at ou.org/women/rc on Monday, July 8th at 12 noon EDT for our virtual Rosh Chodesh Tammuz shiur with Dr. Michelle Levine.

Dr. Michelle Levine is a tenured Associate Professor of Bible in the Rebecca Ivry Department of Jewish Studies at Stern College for Women, Yeshiva University, where she teaches courses in Tanach and medieval commentaries. She is also a faculty member of the GPATS Master's program, Tanach Track. She holds a Master's degree in Bible from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies and a PhD degree in medieval biblical exegesis and medieval Jewish history from New York University. Dr. Levine is the author of "Nahmanides on Genesis: The Art of Biblical Portraiture" (Brown University Press, 2009), and she has published numerous articles on topics of Tanach and medieval Jewish exegesis. Dr. Levine lectures widely to Jewish communities in the U.S., Israel, and Canada. She has also been teaching an ongoing weekly adult Tanach series in her Queens, New York, community for the past twenty-four years.
