The Exodus from Egypt—What a wondrous gift we received! In Sefer Devarim it is written: "And He took us out from there in order to bring us to the land that He swore to our forefathers." The true redemption is not just physical liberation, but the freedom from constricted, enslaved thinking—what the Sages call "galus hamochin". Egypt (Mitzrayim) symbolizes the mindset of oppression and subjugation, a mentality of harming others, tyranny, and suffering. In contrast, the mindset of Eretz Yisrael is one of sweetness and expansiveness—symbolized by eating matzah, the bread of freedom. The essential difference between these two mentalities lies in one word: honor. A person must ask himself honestly: Am I doing what I do for the honor of HaShem or for my own honor? When the question is asked sincerely, the answer becomes clear. If one's deeds are for HaShem's honor, they radiate with the light of matzah—there's a gentleness and inner peace, even when facing life's difficulties. Such a person knows how to clarify his challenges and move forward with strength and clarity. But when one's actions are for self-glorification, his entire life becomes filled with confusion, doubts, and bitterness—this itself is the exile of Egypt, a life rooted in inner conflict and damage. May it be HaShem's will that we merit the true redemption, to be connected to the true tzaddikim who have already attained this clarity in its fullest form. Amen. |
