“With him [Moshe] I speak mouth to mouth, by a vision and not in riddles…” (Numbers 12:8)
Rashi explains: “by a vision” - “I explain My words to him clearly.”
Moshe Rabbeinu merited the highest level of Divine revelation that a human being can attain: direct and clear communication, born from a vision so pure that he perceived everything in this world as nothing other than manifestations of Divine awareness.
In contrast, the rest of humanity does not usually receive such direct communication. Instead, we are given hints and signs. To understand them, we must learn to open our eyes and truly see.
In essence, our perception of the world can be divided into three primary levels:
The First Level - The Physical View
Seeing the material world exactly as it appears, without any spiritual depth. Sadly, those who are distant from Torah and mitzvos often perceive only the external shell of reality and live according to what their physical eyes alone can see.
The Second Level - A Superficial Halachic View
Living according to halachah and fulfilling mitzvos, but doing so mechanically and out of habit - without inner yearning, aspiration, or a genuine desire to draw closer to HaShem.
The Third Level – Divine Awareness
Seeing the presence of HaShem in every detail of existence and recognizing His hand within all that occurs.
It is true that most people move somewhere between the first and second levels. Yet Rebbe Nachman reveals in Likutey Moharan Lesson 54 that there is so much more for us to strive toward and attain.
Reality is not limited to what our physical eyes perceive. HaShem constantly sends us signs and messages, inviting us to seek Him and discover His revelation within our lives.
Sadly, we have witnessed this in a very tangible way since the events of October 7 and throughout the war that followed.
Many people were awakened by these powerful signs and discovered an entirely new world - a world of Divine awareness, where one realizes that HaShem wants us, wants us to seek Him, and wants us to recognize that He exists and is always present.
All that is required is the willingness to search for Him and find Him in every event and in every place.
Rebbe Nachman reveals a profound secret:
Do you want to be modern? Do you want to move forward in life?
Then live in the world of the future - the world that is entirely filled with the revelation of HaShem.
Do not remain trapped in an outdated way of life that is focused solely on the desires and pursuits of this world, a path that ultimately leads to frustration when one fails to attain everything he seeks.
True progress comes through refining the heart, strengthening emunah, engaging in sincere prayer, and constantly remembering the World to Come.
In conclusion, each of us can walk in the path of Moshe Rabbeinu. We can develop our spiritual vision and learn to hear the voice of HaShem speaking through the events and experiences of everyday life.
May we merit to live in this manner throughout all our days, always mindful of the eternal world that awaits us.
Shabbat Shalom
