  • YORED VS .NEHENEH
  • SADEH ASUYAH LITA
  • SADEH SHE ’AINO ASUYAH LITA
  • DEMANDING THE WORK BE UNDONE
  • IMPROVEMENTS THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE
  • INSTRUCTIONS NOT TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS
  • THE BOTTOM LINE

Introduction

A Yored is someone who improves another’s property without being hired. If the property owner is inclined to keep the improvement, he must compensate the Yored for his work. The amount of compensation depends on whether he would have hired someone for this improvement in any case.

Points to Ponder

• If a child shoveled the snow from someone’s walk without being asked, can he demand payment from the homeowner?

• A contractor installed lighting without being asked, and the homeowner refused to pay for it. Can he restrict the owner from using the lights?

• Out of the goodness of his heart, someone paid off his friend’s credit card debt. Must the debtor reimburse him when he has the money?

• What happens if a builder defies the plans he was given and does something that makes the home more valuable – can he charge the client for the upgrade?
