Dear Alumni and Friends,

What an unforgettable month it's been at HTC! Earlier this January, we gathered for our HTC103 Gala, a beautiful celebration of our Yeshiva's past, present, and future. Thank you to the hundreds of alumni, parents, friends, and supporters who joined us in honoring Rabbi & Mrs. Yosef and Bracha Polstein, Mr. & Mrs. Michael and Tova Perl, and Mrs. Rita Lipshitz—each of whom has made an indelible impact on our community and Klal Yisrael.

The energy from the Gala continues to carry us forward into the second half of the school year, as our talmidim and students return to their learning with renewed focus and excitement.

With Purim right around the corner, our Shalach Manos Project is now live! Visit purim.htc.edu to order.

Read on for more news, photos, and highlights from across our divisions—and stay tuned for upcoming alumni events and community programming!

Warm regards,

Rabbi Shmuel L. Schuman

Powerful Tefillah Yom Iyun at FYHS

In mid-January, FYHS held a powerful and inspiring Tefillah Yom Iyun, giving our talmidim the opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect to the meaning of davening. The day opened with Rabbi Liebtag's thoughtful presentation on the state of our tefillah, a conversation that set the tone for a meaningful morning of growth and self-reflection...

Our Alumni and Students

HTC is proud of our students, past and present! Take a look at this month's spotlighted alumni.

Alumnus Name: Avraham Goldberg

Graduating Year: 1995

Current Location: West Hempstead, NY

Profession: I'm an attorney handling personal injury and a variety of civil litigation matters.  In 2019, I had the privilege of being admitted to the bar at the Supreme Court of the United States!

Tell us a little bit about your family:

I'm married and have a son who is a lone soldier in the IDF.  I also have two stepdaughters - one in high school and one in college. And of course, we have two cats.

What is your favorite memory/(memories) from FYHS/HTC/Kayitz: Academically, I loved Mr. Hein's Biology class. I also loved Rabbi Segal's class and even visited him in Israel recently. I also went to Lakewood and saw Rabbi Weiss. I still feel connected to the Rebbeim. I also have fond memories of decorating the school for Purim and sledding on the lunchroom trays in the winter.

Please share a lesson/takeaway from your time at FYHS/HTC/Kayitz: I can't point to one moment, but I know the 4 years I spent in the Yeshiva helped shape me into who I am today. I did note that the way Rabbi Segal treats his students was special. He takes time to listen to questions and answer them. His teaching style was collaborative and not adversarial. It wasn't teacher vs. student but rather teacher with student.

Advice for current students:

Take a deep breath, slow down, and get perspective on where you are now, as it will seem later on. Put yourself in your shoes in 20-30 years and appreciate these times now.  Of course, that's easier said than done.

Student Name: Aharon Zisook

Grade: 10th Grade, Class of '28

Shiur: Rabbi Babad's Shiur

Favorite Class: Mr. Verdageur's US History Class

What Career are you Interested in pursuing: I'm still figuring it out

Best memory at FYHS so far: Going to play in the Columbus Baseball Tournament

Best Part of the Yeshiva: The ruach!

"וַיִשְׁמַע יִתְר" – "And Yisro heard." What was the particular report which Yisro heard so that he came? It was the division of the Red Sea and the war with Amalek (cf. Mechilta d'Rabbi Yishmael 18:1:1; Zevachim 116a).?"

What's Mine is Mine - What's Yours is Yours

By Rabbi Moshe Revah

n this week's parashah we have the Aseres HaDibros. The final commandment of the Aseres HaDibros is "לֹא תַחְמֹד" – "You shall not covet". The Ibn Ezra famously asks how it is possible to demand that of a human, for coveting is a natural feeling, and if one desires something, how is he supposed to not desire it? .
