Dear Alumni and Friends,

We hope you and your families had a beautiful and uplifting Shavuos!

As another incredible school year at HTC begins to draw to a close, we extend a heartfelt mazel tov to the graduates of Fasman Yeshiva High School, HTC Beis Midrash & Men's College, and the Sarah Hartman Women’s College of Touro. We are proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to seeing the impact they will continue to make in Klal Yisrael and beyond.

We also invite the community to join us on Wednesday, June 10 for our upcoming Boots for Israel packing event in partnership with the Rabbi William Z. & Eda Bess Novick z”l Bigdei Yisrael program and Boots for Israel. Together, we hope to help deliver over 1,000 pairs of combat boots to Chayalim serving on the front lines. Thank you to the many supporters already stepping forward to sponsor pairs and take part in this meaningful initiative. Click here to donate and sign up to pack and see below for the event flyer.

Please read on for more updates, alumni news, and highlights from across our Yeshiva.

All the best,

Rabbi Shmuel L. Schuman

FYHS Talmidim Culminate Maseches Gittin with a Trip to the cRc

On May 28th, a group of our FYHS 11th and 12th grade talmidim had the special opportunity to visit the cRc and hear from the Av Beis Din, Rabbi Reiss shlit”a. As a culmination of their year learning Maseches Gittin, the students gained firsthand insight into the halachos and process of a Get, bringing their learning to life in a meaningful and practical way. The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where talmidim had the chance to ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding of this important area of halacha.

A Life of Quiet Impact: Remembering Mr. Allen Lapporte, z"l

There are individuals whose lives leave an imprint not through public recognition, but through quiet consistency, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to others. Mr. Allen Lapporte, ז״ל, was one such individual. In reflecting on his life, and in conversations with his wife, Doris, a picture emerges of a man defined by integrity, curiosity, and a deep sense of responsibility to his community and to the future of Jewish life—but also by warmth, humility, and a genuine love of people.

HTC Welcomes Rabbi Zucker, Rosh Kollel as Guest Speaker

The HTC Kollel was honored to welcome Rabbi Dovid Zucker shlita, Rosh Kollel of the Chicago Community Kollel, who delivered a phenomenal shiur on the topic of muktzah. His thoughtful presentation provided both practical halachic guidance and deeper appreciation for the subject. The Kollel is privileged to regularly host esteemed Rabbanim and Roshei Mosdos who have given shiurim on the topics throughout Maseches Shabbos, which we have been learning throughout the year.

FYHS Lag Ba'Omer Kumzitz and Barbecue

Lag BaOmer was a smashing success at FYHS! Students enjoyed an uplifting bonfire and kumzitz, and although the event almost got rained out, the skies cleared just in time for the bonfire to begin. Earlier in the day, students and rabbeim also faced off in the annual Rebbe–Talmid baseball game, with the rabbeim pulling out a hard-fought 19–17 victory. Following a barbeque prepared in the rain by seniors, Rabbi Zimmerman led an inspiring kumzitz filled with Lag BaOmer niggunim. The evening concluded with a Dvar Torah from the Rosh Yeshiva shared with the entire Yeshiva.

Alumni Spotlights

HTC is proud of our students, past and present! Take a look at this month's spotlighted alumni.

Mitch Appleson, FYHS 1999

Current Location: Philadelphia, PA

Profession:  I work in healthcare administration. I'm currently working as the COO for a non-profit that helps people with FTD, Frontotemporal. Dementia

Tell us a little bit about your family:

Married with 3 kids

What is your favorite memory/(memories) from FYHS/HTC/Kayitz:

I got very close to my classmates throughout high school. I lived in the dorms and built some important bonds.

When the chimney strike happened, the Chicago community really stepped up and took us all in. We had school at KINS, and everyone made it work. It was a wild experience but we all came together.

Please share a lesson/takeaway from your time at FYHS/HTC/Kayitz:

Keeping with the theme of community, people came from all different backgrounds, especially in the dorms. It was great to see such a diverse group of people come together.

Advice for current students:

Make the most of your time at the Yeshiva. This isn't just going to school and getting a diploma. Take advantage of the special rebbeim and build relationships. Be part of the community!

Jon Zahtz, FYHS 1998

Current Location: Bet Shemesh

Profession: I previously worked in the United States on radar systems for fighter jets. Today, I work in Israel as a Software Engineer at Synamedia (formerly Cisco).

Tell us a little bit about your family:

I am married and the father of four children.

What is your favorite memory/(memories) from FYHS/HTC/Kayitz:

One of my memories was the Torah Bowl. It made Torah learning fun and engaging, and it was a wonderful initiative. The Rabbis who taught me were truly special—Rabbi Polstein, Rabbi Cardash, Rabbi Ginzburg, and others were outstanding educators who inspired us to learn Torah. They struck a meaningful balance between serious learning and enjoyment. By learning alongside us and sometimes even playing sports together, they earned our respect and taught us how to truly enjoy learning.

Please share a lesson/takeaway from your time at FYHS/HTC/Kayitz:

One of the most important lessons I learned was the importance of balancing everyday life with Torah learning. Even as a working husband and father, it is essential to intentionally set aside time for learning.

Advice for current students:

Focus on your dreams. Think carefully about what you want to do in life and make a real effort to pursue it. Set clear goals for yourself and stay committed to them.
