Shatnez Notice!
Shatnez Found in Non-woolen Suits
Dear friend,
After experiencing our own personal קבלת התורה, it's important to be among those who are ללמוד על מנת לעשות, as קבלת התורה includes following precisely the halacha. This would include to adhere to carefully check for Shatnez in any suspicious garment.
Not only woolen suits need to be checked for Shatnez; suits made of other fabrics also require checking!
Clothing may contain combinations that are not readily noticeable, and we might discover that we are wearing Shatnez. Therefore, it is important to carefully check the clothes we wear and ensure they meet Halachic requirements.
Below are just two of the many instances where shatnez had been found in non-woolen suits.
Above is the brand label, Cesare Attollini Napoli, of a cashmere- silk suit that has been declared shatnez. The shatnez can be viewed above in the lead picture.
The image above shows a woolen reinforcement dart found in a linen suit.
As some who consider themselves Bnei Torah, may be challenged as it relates to checking for shatnez, we are presenting a true story of an authentic Ben Torah, the late HaRav Yitzchok Zilber zt"l of Russia, facing a shatnez challenge. It's a firsthand account from his autobiography, To Remain A Jew, page 196.
I WAS IMPRISONED for the duration of the trial proceedings. The conditions in jail were unbearable.
Soon I developed dysentery. It was on Shabbos, 10 Tammuz, 1951—my daughter’s birthday—that I washed my hands and was about to eat a piece of bread in honor of Shabbos, but I could not swallow even a crumb. I did not have the strength to go out for our daily walk. I asked to be allowed to stay in my cell, but they would not allow it. I went out, took two steps and fell.
I regained consciousness in the prison hospital. I actually felt better there, and began regaining my strength. But as I got stronger, I noticed that the odds were that I would develop some new disease there. The diagnoses of my roommates could not have been worse: one had active tuberculosis, another had syphilis, and another had some other horrible disease. I rushed to return to my cell.
Then there was another problem. I was issued a blanket, but I was not sure whether it had shatnez or not, and therefore I could not use it. I saw that my non-Jewish cell mate had a cotton blanket and I proposed that we trade. “What do you need it for?” he asked curiously.
I explained the matter and he blew up. “People like you should be executed! Because of you people we cannot build socialism!” He was furious. It was terrible.
When he was transferred to another cell three days later, he came to me with his blanket and said, “Here, take it!”
Why was he suddenly so kind? I don’t know, but I still appreciate it.
It is essential to have your shatnez testing done only at a qualified shatnez laboratory. Proper garment testing can be very challenging and should only be conducted by a qualified shatnez laboratory.
The following is a list of recommended shatnez laboratories in the Lakewood-Toms River, New Jersey vicinity:
Shatnez Test Center 732-901-8378
Lakewood Shatnez Laboratory 732-364-7056
Shatnez Lab of Manchester 414-334-8706
We plan to add shatnez laboratories in other vicinities.
Please share this information widely!

Did you know....
The דבר שמואל states in תשובה קעח that those in positions of Rabbinical authority must examine all types of garments and inform the public about shatnez concerns. He mentions that the של"ה הקדוש did so in his ספר, and alerted the public to shatnez garments. You can view the דבר שמואל by clicking here.
