Their sentencing is scheduled for Monday—which means:
THAT WE SHOULD DO THIS ON SUNDAY, BECAUSE IT WILL BE MONDAY IN JAPAN!!! If we wait until Monday, we will miss the auspicious time.

Dear All,
Just an important reminder to have extra kavana next Monday for the boys in the Japanese prison. Here are their names:
Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel
Yoel Zev ben Mirel Risa Chava
Yosef ben Ita Rivka
I'm sure a lot of you are as frustrated as I am not being able to do anything constructive for the Chassidishe boys sitting in jail in Japan for the last year. Their trial was a couple of weeks ago, but the verdict is forthcoming.
How about for their zechus, we all try for one day not to speak about anyone. The Chofetz Chaim writes in his book Guard Your Tongue in the Mussar Selections (#73) "A person who finds it impossible to remain silent should at least adopt an ironclad principle not to discuss other people."
On Monday, chaf Kislev, December 7th, consciously speak of only things - not people! On that day, tell your friends that you're not speaking about anyone for the express purpose of helping those boys come home. Imagine that they are your brothers or sons.
This is what we can do constructively.
We should hear besuros tovos, b'mheira!

Prayers Asked for Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu
(IsraelNN.com) The family of former Chief Sephardic Rabbi Mordechai called on the public Thursday evening to pray for his recovery. The rabbi's condition has improved in recent weeks over the past few weeks but he is still in the intensive care unit of Jerusalem's Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital.
People close to the rabbi told Arutz Sheva "In recent weeks we saw miracles and improvement in the rabbi's condition but in recent days, but in recent days deterioration has begun. The rabbi needs the mercy of heaven."
For purposes of prayer, the rabbi's name is Mordechai Tzemach ben Mazal.

From one of our members:
BS"D
I am so sorry to bother everyone, but please can you keep my dad in your prayers. I was only notified late yesterday afternoon that he was gravely ill (I had been on Friday, and was told Sunday he was "fine"--and did not go out) on Shabbas, was taken to the hospital on Shabbas and again on Sunday. His dementia has increased and his medical condition is worsening. He is on medication which might hasten his death, I am trying to see if I can do anything to stop the administration thereof, but have no way of knowing that I'll be able to do anything.
If you have time to say a perek of Tehillim, I would be most appreciative: Naphtali ben bessele, thanks much.

Update on Reuven ben Tova Chaya
From Reuven's aunt:
Hi everyone. The last time I posted on Reuven was back in June. You have all been so kind in continuing to ask about him and daven for him. I wanted to update you as to the current situation. A couple weeks ago, Reuven started a new protocol treatment which involved chemo and some experimental drugs therapy. Today, was going to be the second round of that protocol but before they started, Reuven has a scan this morning to check on his existing tumor. Much to everyone's dismay, the tumor grew despite the chemo he has been getting. Baruch Hashem, it has not spread, but it was not the news his parents or any of us were expecting to hear. The doctors told them that due to the growth, they could not longer continue this protocol treatment, meaning the chemo was not doing the job it was supposed to be doing. In her usual manner of keeping things "normal", Tovi took Reuven home from the hospital and brought him straight to school, which he very much enjoys.
We are all anxiously waiting for what's next...what the new treatment option will be for Reuven. The situation is serious and Reuven needs our Tefillos. Please continue to pour out your hearts for him in your davening and mitzvos. Hashem is listening and little Reuven needs a Refuah Shleima Bmheira.
Forever thankful,
Rivkie

TODAY Thursday November 26 20009 special time for PRAYING tefila/davening !!!
This coming Thursday (November 26th) the 9th of Kislev is a very special time where the gates of tefilot are wide open and Hashem is hearing, accepting and answering our prayers! Like the Ramban wrote: "the 9th year on the 9th month at the 9th hour of the day is a time of happiness and grants from Hashem" and you should know, adds the Chesed L'avraham, "this time is very appropriate for success and is a pipe to bring upon ourselves abundance and redemption."
This very special moment only comes around once every 7 years so we must get ready for it and take advantage of the opportunity granted to us from Hashem. Therefore it is important we take the time to pray and ask Hashem for all we need and desire in a clear and detailed way. In order to do so, we must prepare ourselves and put on paper what is the most important to us so that we can ask it clearly on this very special moment.Israel from 1:43pm to 1:56pm
New York from 2:07pm to 2:55pm
Los Angeles from 2:15pm to 3:03pm
Miami from 2:44pm to 3:42pm
Chicago from 1:56pm to 2:47pm

KEEP PRAYING
Over the past several weeks we sent out alerts asking everyone to pray for various special individuals who were extremely ill.
Unfortunately, we were not able to report good news and Rabbi Gross, Mottie Borger and Adira Boltshauser z”l passed away. YZB TNTBH
Please read what the Steipler said about such tefillos and may we only share simchos including the ultimate simchah of the coming of Moshiach—May He come speedily in our day!
*************************
When praying on behalf of someone who is seriously ill, and whose condition appears to be worsening, there is a tendency to grow despondent and to be overcome by a feeling that one's prayers are for naught—Nothing could be further from the truth. The Steipler Gaon once enumerated five areas in which such tefillos achieve significant accomplishment:
a) The tefillos may very well diminish the patient's suffering to some degree.
b) The tefillos may extend the patient's life by a few months, weeks, days or even a few hours. Even a moment of life, said the Steipler, is of inestimable value and is more precious than gems.
c) Our Sages teach, "Even if a sharp-edged sword is resting upon a person's neck, he should not refrain from beseeching the Heavens for mercy" (Berachos lOa). There have been many instances where, through the kindness of Heaven, someone who was gravely ill experienced a full recovery.
d) Even if the prayers effect no change at all in the patient's condition, they still are a source of merit for him, since all those who prayed aroused Heavenly compassion through their prayers, which were uttered because of him. These merits will stand by him in the World to Come and may also protect his offspring in the future.
e) These prayers can bring salvation to other individuals and to the community as a whole. At the End of Days, when all will be revealed, we will learn how each tefillah uttered by each individual brought about great goodness and salvation (Toldos Yaakov, p. 118-119).

Special Psalms for Gilad
The chief rabbi noted that, according to Kabbalah, the 13 minutes between the hours of 1:43 pm and 1:56 pm(Chicago from 1:56pm to 2:47pm) on Thursday have unique qualities. He called upon the public to take advantage of this occasion to read psalms for Gilad's rescue. "With the power of prayer, we can open the heavens and be worthy of our heart's wishes being granted – that Gilad will light the Hannukah candles with his family."

Dear Aneinu Members,
I received the following request from one of our members:
I was at a PNAI (Parents of North American Israelis) Meeting today and Rabbi Neil Brief asked us all to please daven for his granddaughter, Nava Shirel bas Chava. She had a burst appendix and is in Hadassah En Keren (I hope I wrote that correctly).

Cooking on Shabbos – A HOT Topic
The Orthodox Union’s prominent Poskim, Rav Yisroel Belsky, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah V’Da’as, and Rav Hershel Schachter, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Rabbenu Yitzchok Elchanon, focus on issues of practical halacha related to cooking on Shabbos: How do I use a blech? How do I heat up food from the fridge? What is the proper use of a crockpot? Are there any limitations on using a conventional oven? Questions were drawn from e-mails sent in by YOU. Tune in and be awed and enlightened! Recorded live on November 17, 2009 at OU’s world headquarters in New York, NY.
