[Aneinu] "Don't Abandon Me" - Please Daven for Warren Weinstein

Please daven for Yisroel Yitzchok ben Faigel. Arutz 7 US Hostage To Obama: 'Don't Abandon Me' Anonymous video shows Warren Weinstein, kidnapped 2 years ago by Al Qaeda in Pakistan, appealing Obama to negotiate his release. By Ari Yashar First Publish: 12/26/2013, 8:56 PM A video message from Warren Weinstein, an American hostage held by Al Qaeda, was sent anonymously to theWashington Post on Wednesday. In the video a bearded and dejected looking Weinstein appealed directly to US President Barack Obama to negotiate his release. Weinstein, now 72 and in poor health with a heart condition and acute asthma, was captured over two years ago while working as a consultant on US government programs in Pakistan. Pakistan is now in peace talks with its local Taliban, and has criticized US for drone strikes for endangering talks. "Nine years ago I came to Pakistan to help my government, and I did so at a time when most Americans would not come here," says Weinstein in the video. "Now when I need my government, it seems that I have been totally abandoned and forgotten." Obama's administration has said it will not negotiate with Al Qaeda for Weinstein's release. Weinstein then addressed US Secretary of State John Kerry, saying he had learned from his captors how Kerry has been busily seeking "peace and conflict resolution" in various parts of the globe. Weinstein asked Kerry to take action for Al Qaeda prisoners to maneuver his release. In requesting help from his government, Weinstein noted "for over 30 years I have served my country as a college professor, as a civil servant. I have served as peace corps country director in West Africa, and in the United States Agency for International Development USAID, and lastly as a consultant." Weinstein noted his particular suffering at being cut off from his family. Addressing his family, he said "I love them very much," urging them not to give up hope, and to raise a campaign to secure his release. "I continue to pray to G-d that one day you will be successful, and that the leaders of our government will come to realize that they owe it to themselves, and they owe it to us, to work to gain my freedom and for us to be reunited," said Weinstein. Previously Weinstein has appealed to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu "as one Jew to another" to help work for his release. Meanwhile it is noted that Jonathan Pollard is in his 29th year in a US cell. His ongoing imprisonment has been widely criticized given recentrevelations of US spying on Israeli leaders. Obama has no plans to release Pollard, according to the White House.

Rav Elyashiv Stories from His Life by Sarah Leon IS AT KESHER STAM

Rav Elyashiv was renowned the world over, and his holiness was attested to by one and all. He was accepted in our generation as the transmitter of Torah as it was given on Har Sinai, and the most complex of all Klal Yisroel’s questions were brought before him to decide. This is more than a biography. Sarah Leon, the author of “The Rebbetzin Loved Me”, takes us into Rav Elyashiv’s world, a world of dedication to, and love of, Hashem and His Torah. We read the stories and we are inspired. When we look at Rav Elyashiv’s path in life and see the heights he reached, it can encourage us in our own lives. Though we might not reach his level of perfection, we can decide to do a little bit more, to learn from the way he acted and to try to be like him as best we can.

OU TORAH Surviving Failure By Rabbi Sacks post 6000

Bereishit ends on a sublime note of reconciliation between Joseph and his brothers. His brothers were afraid that he had not really forgiven them for selling him into slavery. They suspected that he was merely delaying his revenge until their father died. So after Jacob’s death they express their fear. Joseph however insisted: “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. (Gen. 50: 19-21) This is the second time he had said something like this to them. Earlier he had spoken similarly when he first disclosed that he – the man they thought was an Egyptian viceroy called Zophenat Paneakh – was in fact their brother Joseph: “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no ploughing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.” (Gen. 45: 3-8) This is a crucial moment in the history of faith. It marks the birth of forgiveness,

The Oral Law of Sinai: An Illustrated History of the Mishnah by Berel Wein is on sale at BarnesandNoble.com

Written by historian Rabbi Berel Wein,The Oral Law of Sinai is an extraordinary and beautifully illustrated book that explores the Talmud?a law book that is a faithful transmission of the Oral Law of Sinai. As Rabbi Wein explains, the Talmud is two separate books comprising the Oral Law. This work offers an explanation of the first book of the Talmud, the Mishnah. Rabbi Wein guides the reader through the mysteries of the Mishnah that detail ethical principles and moral values. It is also filled with legends and stories of psychological and historical observations. The Mishnah discusses medicine, pharmacology, dreams, botany, astronomy and mathematics, as well as human and animal biology. There is nothing about human existence, nothing about life, humans, nature, spirituality or physicality that is a taboo subject. All is Torah; all is holiness. The Oral Law of Sinai is replete with humor, irony, pathos, soaring optimism and cold hearted realism, its drama emerges from the give and take of intensive scholarly debate and unending questioning, problem solving, and hypotheses.(from Koren). [Aneinu] Please Daven for Israel

From KEY: please daven that people throughout klal yisrael have heat light and food for shabbos!! Many parts of Yerushalayim without power due to snow. from news reports Officials in the Israel Electric Company are instructing residents of areas that are snow covered and without electricity to plan for a Shabbos without electricity. Officials report that while crew are out working, it is most unlikely that all areas will be back up and running by candle lighting time. Repair crews will continue working since it is pikuach nefesh due to the bitter cold. The utility company advises families with small children and the elderly to turn to the city’s emergency dispatcher for assistance since power crews are unable to keep the pace with downed power lines. The main problem facing repairs crews is inaccessibility to areas without power. IEC officials warn the public not to come close to or attempt to touch or move any downed lines under any circumstances. To report an outage one may phone Israel Electric at 103 or the Jerusalem dispatcher at 106. Some of the areas of the capital without power at this point include; Givat Masua, Bayit Vegan, Kiryat Yovel, Givat Shaul, Beit HaKerem, Pisgat Ze’ev, Ir Ganim, Reches Shlomo, Rechavia, Kiryat Moshe, Shaare Chessed, Ramot and areas of the city center. In Yehuda and Shomron outages were reported in many yishuvim. In the center of the country, outages were reported earlier in Bnei Brak, Herzliya, Ramat Gan and portions of Tel Aviv.
