Fwd: [Aneinu] Increased Police Attention on Synagogues and Places of Worship
Increased Police Attention on Synagogues and Places of Worship
Dear Neighbor,
I was horrified by the anti-Semitic shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh this morning. Places of worship should be a safe space and never a scene of terror and death. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community and law enforcement community of Pittsburgh.
I have spoken with both the 24th and 17th District police commanders to make sure that the police department is putting special attention on all synagogues and other places of worship. The police have increased patrols in the neighborhood, and police officers visited every synagogue in the 50th Ward this morning and spoke with the security guards and shul leadership.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson released a statement today that there is no known threat to religious institutions in Chicago, but I will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure the security of our community.
Sincerely,
Debra L. Silverstein
