News from the Agudah:

  • With deep sadness we note the sudden petirah of our longtime colleague and dear chaver Rabbi Mordechai Biser Z"L. • The Torah Projects Commission of Agudas Yisroel, in conjunction with Hakhel, will be hosting an Atzeres Hesped L'Zecher Nishmas Rav Chaim Kanievsky ztvk"l, tonight. Hespedim will be given by Rabbi Yitzchok Sorotzkin, Rosh HaYeshiva, Telz, Mesifta D'Lakewood, Chaver Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah; Rabbi Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshivas Mir Chaver Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah; Rabbi Yitzchok Zilberstein, Rosh Kollel, Bais Dovid, Cholon, Rav, Ramat Elchanan, Bnei Brak; and Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Mora D'Asra, Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin. • Agudath Israel of America applauds the Senate confirmation of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt as the State Department's Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. See below for more details.

  • As the war in Ukraine continues and intensifies, we do not know how long this war will last and where it will go, Hashem yerachemHere is what we do know: the money collected is being sent and used to save neshamos almost as fast as it is coming in. The need for funds to help people escape the Ukrainian war zone, and for food, lodging, and other necessities for refugees is mounting. We are doing whatever is necessary, including privately airlifting food and medical supplies over enemy lines to those in immediate need, and opening warehouses in Poland.

  • We have thus raised our own goal, and will continue to do whatever we can to help our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. We hope you will do the same. You can donate by going to vaadhatzalahrescue.org/Ukraine or by calling 929.529.0200You can mail a check to Vaad Hatzalah, 42 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004. We are working with trusted partners "on the ground" to make sure that all donations goes to this pressing need, including such items as food, medical needs, additional security, and evacuation and housing costs. Please contribute generously. Thank you. Click here to donate.

Agudath Israel of America Applauds Senate Confirmation of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt
Agudath Israel of America applauds Senate confirmation of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt as the State Department's Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, an ambassador-level position.

Agudath Israel endorsed President Biden's pick for Special Envoy early on.

"Dr. Lipstadt is a unique blend of scholar-activist," observed Rabbi Abba Cohen, Agudath Israel's Vice President of Government Affairs and Washington Director. "She is a prominent historian and thinker on the Holocaust and antisemitism and that puts her in a position of being able to turn her knowledge and understanding of these issues into informed and creative thinking about how best to fight this scourge, which is plaguing countries around the world."

Agudath Israel joined other Jewish groups, and worked with Capitol Hill leadership, to encourage swift nomination. The group also supported earlier congressional efforts to raise the prominence, influence, and funding of the position to ambassador-level.

"The fight against antisemitism is never-ending, and particularly critical at a time when we are witnessing open and increasing verbal and physical attacks against Jews in foreign countries. We are gratified that Dr. Lipstadt can now assume the helm and take on this vital work and we look forward to working closely and cooperatively with her in these efforts," Rabbi Cohen concluded.

Psalms/

1) For the musician, with musical accompaniment on the sheminis instrument, a mizmor by David. (2) Hashem, don't rebuke me in Your anger. Don't chastise me in Your rage. (3) Grant me Your mercy, Hashem, for I have been cut down. (4) Heal me, Hashem, for my bones shake with terror. My soul is utterly terrified, and You Hashem — How long? (5) Turn back, Hashem, release my soul. Save me as befits Your kindness ... (6) for there is no mention of You in death. In the grave who will thank You? (7) I am exhausted from groaning; every night my bed is drenched; with my tears I soil the place where I have lain.  (8) My eye is dimmed from anger, aged by all my tormentors. (9) Depart from me all wrongdoers, for Hashem has heard the sound of my weeping. (10) Hashem has heard my plea; Hashem will accept my prayer. (11) They will be ashamed and will be utterly astounded. When all my enemies return, they will be ashamed for a while.

(1) For the musician, a mizmor by David. (2) May Hashem answer you on the day of distress. May the Name of Yaakov's G-d protect you. (3) May He send your help from the Mikdash; may He support you from Tzion. (4) May He give consideration to all your minchah-offerings. May He accept your olah-offerings, Selah. (5) May He grant you according to your heart. May He fulfill your every plan. (6) We will sing joyously because of your deliverance, and we will gather around banners in the Name of our G-d. May Hashem fulfill all your requests.  (7) Now I know that Hashem continues to save His anointed one. He will continue to answer from His holy heaven, with the mighty victories of His right hand. (8) Some [depend] on chariots, and some on horses. We call out the Name of Hashem, our G-d. (9) They slumped and fell, but we stood up and were empowered. (10) Hashem save! May the King answer us on the day we call.
