Rav Mordechai Fuchs Speaks at National Eruv Conference

Harav Mordechai Fuchs, Rosh Kollel of Kollel Zichron Gershon L'Dayanus and Dayan at the Bais HaVaad, delivered a comprehensive presentation at the Orthodox Union's second annual City Eruv Conference, co-hosted by the National Eruv Initiative. Rav Fuchs focused on the promotion of shmiras Shabbos through the creation and maintenance of city and neighborhood eruvin, while addressing the practical and halachic considerations involved.

He discussed the benefits and challenges of relying on city or neighborhood eruvin, analyzing whether there remains a need for private or street-specific eruvin. Rav Fuchs elaborated on various shitos regarding reshus harabim, karfeif, and the halachic complexities of tzuras hapesach. He emphasized that while city eruvin offer significant communal benefits, due to potential halachic pitfalls and intricate requirements, maintaining a private eruv can be a legitimate chumra and even a ma'alah.

The conference, held at the Marriott Saddle Brook hotel in New Jersey, brought together approximately 100 eruv professionals representing 55 North American cities. Featuring leading poskim, the event offered chizuk, networking opportunities, and practical sessions for those engaged in the construction and maintenance of eruvin.

New Sefer by Harav Shmuel Honigwachs, Dayan at the Bais HaVaad

The Bais HaVaad is proud to announce the publication of the second volume of a sefer by Harav Shmuel Honigwachs, Dayan at the Bais HaVaad. This work features the psakim of Harav Hagaon Shlomo Miller שליט"א, Chaver Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America, Rosh Hakollel and Av Bais Din of Kollel Avreichim of Toronto. Focused primarily on sugyos in Orach Chaim, with additional shailos from Yoreh Deah, the sefer boasts mekoros, footnotes, and simanim, making it an essential resource for talmidei chachamim and poskim.

A Complex Family Dispute: A Case Presented to the Family Services Division

A unique and challenging case recently came before the Bais HaVaad's Family Services Division. A 17-year-old young man reached out after an emotional confrontation with his father. Following the incident, the father took steps to file an affidavit in a secular court alleging mental instability, leading to the young man's institutionalization in a mental health facility for several weeks.

The young man sought the guidance of the Family Services Division, requesting that a Din Torah be convened to address the matter and resolve the tension between him and his father. He expressed his belief that his father's actions stemmed from anger (ka'as), which he felt may have clouded his judgment.

The Kollel continues its intensive learning across various halachic areas:

Choshen Mishpat:

During first seder, the yungeleit completed Hilchos Sechirus Metaltelin and began Hilchos Sechirus Batim, delving into topics such as rent control and related halachos. In second seder, they are learning Hilchos Boshes, focusing on the responsibility of Bais Din to prevent motzi shem ra and address cases involving habitual insults and public embarrassment.

Even HaEzer:

The Kollel is studying the sensitive halachos of Sotah and Moredes, examining their present-day applications. As part of this learning, the yungeleit had the privilege of hearing two in-depth chaburos from Rabbi Yehoshua Grunwald, who has devoted years to these complex and delicate sugyos.

The Kollel's rigorous schedule continues to prepare its members for addressing intricate and timely halachic challenges.

Moadim L'Simcha: New Sefer from HaRav Chaim Weg

The Bais HaVaad is excited to announce the release of Moadim L'Simcha, a new two-volume sefer authored by Harav Chaim Weg שליט"א, Rosh Hakollel of Kollel Zichron Gershon L'Dayanus and Rov of Kehillas Sunset Grove.
