Harav Mordechai Fuchs, Rosh Kollel of Kollel Zichron Gershon L'Dayanus and Dayan at the Bais HaVaad, delivered a comprehensive presentation at the Orthodox Union's second annual City Eruv Conference, co-hosted by the National Eruv Initiative. Rav Fuchs focused on the promotion of shmiras Shabbos through the creation and maintenance of city and neighborhood eruvin, while addressing the practical and halachic considerations involved.
He discussed the benefits and challenges of relying on city or neighborhood eruvin, analyzing whether there remains a need for private or street-specific eruvin. Rav Fuchs elaborated on various shitos regarding reshus harabim, karfeif, and the halachic complexities of tzuras hapesach. He emphasized that while city eruvin offer significant communal benefits, due to potential halachic pitfalls and intricate requirements, maintaining a private eruv can be a legitimate chumra and even a ma'alah.
The conference, held at the Marriott Saddle Brook hotel in New Jersey, brought together approximately 100 eruv professionals representing 55 North American cities. Featuring leading poskim, the event offered chizuk, networking opportunities, and practical sessions for those engaged in the construction and maintenance of eruvin. |
