| "But as surely as I live, the glory of HaShem will fill the entire earth" (Bamidbar 14:21) It's hard to put into words the miracles we witnessed this past week. Lowly individuals who had arrogantly boasted every day about wiping out the Jewish people were, in an instant, reduced to dust and history. Their fate mirrored that of Haman and his wicked cohorts—and we pray that the same will befall all our enemies, speedily with the coming of Mashiach, amen. Their bitter downfall parallels the episode of the spies in the wilderness. What was their grave sin? After all, didn't they merely speak the truth, expressing what they felt in their hearts? But the truth is, the entire purpose of everything in this world is to reveal the glory of HaShem. The spies took the mission they were given and turned it into a matter of personal prestige and self-importance. That misstep led them to speak negatively about the holiness of Eretz Yisrael. In doing so, they diminished the honor of HaShem, to such an extent that death was decreed upon them and their entire generation. How careful we must be to ensure that everything we say and do brings honor to HaShem—and not, Heaven forbid, the opposite. This same misguided arrogance was evident in the boasting of the Iranian regime, who, thank G-d, were repaid according to their deeds. At this moment, we must be especially cautious not to take any credit or glory for ourselves. Let us remember that everything is solely in the merit of HaShem's great mercy upon us—He sees how much we suffer simply because we are Jews, His chosen nation. When we live with that awareness and strive to bring honor to HaShem in all we do, we will merit the complete redemption and the revelation of HaShem's kingship in the world. Amen. Shabbat Shalom |
