Introduction

The prohibition of avodah zara applies to all people, Jews and non-Jews. By extension, the prohibition of lifnei iver, causing another to sin, also applies, and thus a Jew may not do anything that will enable a non-Jew to worship idols.

Points to Ponder

• Are members of Christianity who believe in a trinity considered idol worshipers in halacha? • May a Jew sell items to a non-Jew if he will use them in the service of his idolatry? Does it matter if he may use them for something else instead? • If a non-Jew can easily access the same items elsewhere, is it still a problem for a Jew to sell them to him? • Can a Jew rent out his premises to a church? May he purchase a multi-unit property that has an existing church as a tenant?
