As Yiftach takes over the leadership of B'nei Yisrael, he is forced to deal with the nation of Ammon and its king who are waging war against B'nei Yisrael. After Yiftach inquires from the King of Ammon about the cause for the war., he receives a response. “The Jews took my land when they came out of Mitzrayim”, said the King of Ammon.”(verse 15) Subsequently, for the next seven verses Yiftach explains to the King the history of the exodus from Mitzrayim and the journeys and wars of B'nei yisrael on the way to the Land of Israel. He explains that B'nei Yisrael never took the lands of Ammon. Rather, B'nei Israel defeated Sichon who had captured the land of Ammon.
