Public Safety Alert Dear Neighbor, I am very upset to report that there were two shooting incidents in the 50th Ward this week, which have claimed two lives. I spoke with 24th District Commander Joseph Brennan, and the police are increasing patrols throughout the neighborhood. The details of the shootings are as follows: On Monday evening around 10 PM, there was a homicide at J&K Food and Liquor on the 6300 block of N Rockwell. The store owner, Salim Khamo, was shot and killed while protecting his shop from an attempted robbery. Today, around 4:40 PM, two people were shot while in a car at Estes and Rockwell. One person is dead and another is in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital. Both shootings are being investigated by the Area 3 detectives, and the police do not believe there is an immediate threat to citizens in the area. However, I am speaking with Superintendent David Brown and the police leadership about the need for more officers in our neighborhood. Sincerely, Debra L.
