Strengthening Torah Life. Advocating for the Community. Serving Each Individual.

May 12, 2023 - 21 Iyar 5783

News from the Agudah:

  • Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel who over the past few days have been the victims of a fierce and deadly barrage of rocket fire. We, at Agudath Israel of America, pray to the Master of the Universe that He will speedily bring these hostilities to an end and restore calm to the nation. We also plead that He bring comfort to the family of the dead and that He grant a full and swift recovery to the injured.

  • In honor the 25th Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Moshe Sherer, president of Agudas Yisroel, we reflect on the enormous impact he had on the Jewish communities in America. Rabbi Sherer was a tireless askan for the needs of Kal Yisroel, dedicating his life to promoting and defending Torah values and Jewish interests in the United States and beyond. His unwavering commitment, and visionary leadership enabled him to secure significant gains for the Jewish community, including religious freedoms, educational opportunities, and communal support. Rabbi Sherer's legacy continues to inspire and guide us, and his memory will always be cherished as we strive to continue his vision of Agudas Yisroel. See below for a partial collection of articles from this week's Jewish publications (we will share more as they become available).

  • Mr. Shlomo Werdiger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, executive vice president, and Rabbi Abba Cohen vice president for government affairs and Washington director and counsel, of Agudath Israel met in Washington with U.S. Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain. The discussion centered around his experiences and observations during a recent trip to Israel, including Yerushalayim and the Kosel Hamaaravi. The meeting also touched upon the concerns facing European Jews regarding antisemitism and security, and proposed bans on shechita and bris mila. The State Department and Agudah officials pledged to continue working closely together to address threats to the religious freedom of Jewish communities overseas.
