Chicago Residents: Take Action Now to Oppose Anti-Israel City Council Resolution
Dear Chicago Agudah Activists:
The Chicago City Council is set to vote this Wednesday on a resolution that undermines the United States' support of Israel and attempts to take away Israel's autonomy to choose the most effective way to keep its citizens safe. The resolution, if passed as currently formulated, supports an earlier anti-Israel United Nations decision that the United States opposed. It also doesn't call for an unconditional release of all hostages.
Please fill out the form above so that Mayor Johnson and the Chicago City Council receive a clear message:
· Chicago supports the security of the people of Israel
· Chicago should take no part in one-sided pro-Hamas United Nations resolutions
· The over 100 hostages in Gaza should be released now. No conditions, no hesitations.
Your voice matters. A clear message from thousands of Chicagoans will tell the City Council – and the entire city – that antisemitism, hate, and division have no place in our community.
Take Action Now
Agudah Participates in City Hall Press Conference Regarding Israeli Hostages
Alderman Ray Lopez held a press conference at City Hall on Tuesday morning announcing that he'll introduce a resolution tomorrow along with Alderwoman Debra Silverstein calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. He invited a few others to address the media including Rabbi Shlomo Soroka, director of government affairs for Agudath Israel of Illinois. Rabbi Soroka spoke about how the world was silent when six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust and how Jewish pleas for liberation fell on deaf ears. Once again, the City of Chicago has an opportunity to listen and amplify the pleas of those innocent Jews being held hostage, and urged the mayor and all members of the city council to support the resolution. "Let us learn from history and not repeat the same mistakes," said Rabbi Soroka. "Please join in calling for the unconditional and immediate release of all those being held hostage by barbaric terrorists."
Agudath Israel thanks Alderwoman Debra Silverstein for her strong leadership in both passing a pro-Israel resolution and combatting those pushing for an anti-Israel resolution. Agudath Israel also thanks Alderman Lopez and other aldermen who have been allies throughout this ordeal.
With March primaries quickly approaching, the Chicago Board of Elections has opened up their vote by mail online order form. You can join the permanent roster - even for primaries - by clicking here. Agudath Israel Family Calendar - February
Well over 100 girls ranging across all grade-levels, along with a few intrepid mothers, attended this year's BNOS MID-WINTER BREAK FREE SKATE on Monday, January 22 at the Skatium in Skokie. With the main rink rented for an hour and a half, all the girls who came had plenty of ice time to enjoy the event regardless, if they spent most of the time vertical or horizontal. Upon leaving, the girls also were given a specially prepared Fun Activity Booklet to use over the break. Thank you to our generous sponsor for sponsoring this event in memory of Sima bas Yisroel a"h.
