Ashkenazi custom requires one who ate "hard cheese" (i.e., cheese that was aged for six months) to wait six hours before eating meat. Most cheeses produced in the U.S. are not aged for six months. Parmesan cheese is an exception and is aged for at least six months and after eating it, one must wait six hours before eating meat. If the Parmesan cheese was melted, one need not wait six hours and rinsing one's mouth before eating meat suffices. |
