"So that I may place these signs of Mine within him" (Exodus 10:1) Continuing from last week's discussion about Reb Noson's teaching that the Ten Plagues correspond to the Ten Utterances with which the world was created, it is interesting to note that the final utterance was "Be fruitful and multiply," in which Hashem blesses humanity with the ability to bring forth new life for the continuation of the world. In contrast, the final plague was the Plague of the Firstborn, a Divine intervention that revealed to the entire world that some individuals, by their very birth, are forces of destruction rather than creation. Through this plague, the concept of holy procreation was introduced and clarified. From the summary of the plagues, we must take an immense lesson of encouragement: No matter what a person has done throughout their life, and no matter who their parents are, one should never fall into blaming others for their physical or spiritual condition. Rather, a person must know that through the power of Moshe Rabbeinu, even if one was born into difficult circumstances and has caused destruction throughout their life, if they have faith in the renewal of the world and in the ability of the tzaddik to perform miracles, they can change and move forward. One must also believe with absolute clarity that every step of progress in serving Hashem literally transforms their life! Shabbat Shalom, Chaim Kramer |
