"And I will multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt" (Exodus 7:3) The world was created through ten utterances, with the purpose of creation being to reveal Hashem's glory in the world. The descent of the Children of Israel into exile was intended to rectify the sin of Adam HaRishon and the generation of the Flood—a descent to the root of dishonoring Hashem's glory, which is most expressed in the blemish of the covenant (*p'gam ha'bris*). Therefore, when the time came for their redemption, Hashem brought ten plagues upon Egypt, corresponding to the ten utterances of creation. This is also why the glory of Hashem is evident in each of the plagues, as the Torah states in various ways: "So that you will know that the land belongs to Hashem," "There is none like Hashem, our God," and more. Each plague destroyed another aspect of the power of the impurity of Egypt and renewed the revelation of Hashem's glory in the world. This is our prayer and hope even now. We are surrounded by so much dishonor of Hashem's glory, and the Western world has completely lost its moral compass. Yet, we hold strong to our faith in the power of the tzaddikim, who reveal Hashem's glory. Through them, we will merit a time when the entire world recognizes Hashem's glory, and we will see the ultimate redemption soon, Amen. Shabbat Shalom, Chaim Kramer |
