Q: I just ate a piece of potato kugel which contained onions that were cut with a fleishig knife. Do I now need to wait 6 hours before eating dairy?

A: Rav Yisroel Langer responds:

Onions take on a special status in halacha as they are a sharp food. If one cuts an onion with a fleishig knife, the entire onion may not be consumed with dairy even if the fleishig knife has not been used in a long time. However, R' Akiva Eiger says that one who eats the onion that was cut with the meat knife will not have to wait 6 hours before eating dairy. Hence, the one who ate the kugel may consume the dairy soon after. However, in the reverse case in which one is fleishig, some poskim rule that he must wait 6 hours before eating foods containing onions that were cut with a milchig knife (Pri Migadim).

Yahalom Chicago Hosts ABC's of Funding Informative Presentation

This past week, Yahalom Chicago parents benefitted from a virtual presentation about funding opportunities in Illinois for children with special needs. The session was given by Allison Rodenhouse, who is the Director of the Supports for People with Disabilities department of JCFS. The information provided an overview of funding opportunities in the State of Illinois, an understanding of who might be eligible for this funding, and if eligible, what the process is to obtain the funding.

Notes from Bnos Leaders

Two dozen local Bnos leaders represented Chicago over Parshas Va'yigash in Cincinnati, Ohio at this year's Midwest Bnos Leaders Convention.

The girls' trip, which was partially subsidized by the local Agudah, enabled the leaders to spend a Shabbos with old friends, make many new ones and attend numerous sessions – all aimed at helping them become better Bnos leaders.

Below are two letters sent to Mrs. Aron, Bnos Director, from leaders expressing their Hakaras Hatov.
