Dear Friends, עמו״ש
I hope you feel uplifted after our celebration of Chanuka bsD.
Rabbi Yosef Zvi Rimon, shlit"a is a living legend. World-renowned Rabbinic decisor, community leader, pioneering educator and prolific author, Rav Rimon is unique in his contributions to the Torah community, Israeli society and worldwide Jewry. I recently spent some time with Rav Rimon. I reached out to meet with him for both spiritual guidance and strategic direction, as I think about our Kollel programming and the current situation in Israel.
Rav Rimon imparted a clear message - the principle that animates his many current projects. Our goal should be to bring strength to Am Yisrael. This is his overarching goal and should be an important goal for me and our Kollel community.
Am Yisrael, especially our people in our land, is still facing significant challenges day to day. Tens of thousands of members of Israel's security forces are still risking their lives, battling our enemies up and down the Gaza strip, across Yehuda and Shomron and on the cusp of Lebanon. Some are from our own Kollel community, while many are close relatives and friends. One hundred hostages remain torn from their families, who wait every moment to moment for the return of their loved ones. More than two thousand IDF soldiers have been severely or seriously wounded since the war's outset and are rehabilitating across Israel. 891 men and women have fallen serving in the IDF since the beginning of the war, and the ripple effects of this devastation is incalculable. Finally, let's consider the emotional and psychological toll the ongoing war is having on parents and kids who have been displaced or unsettled by the constant threats.
Am Yisrael needs our strength - our Chizuk. We must continue to utilize our most effective tool - our Tefillah and Tehillim to cry out to Hashem to have compassion on His people. We must maintain an Am Yisrael consciousness - thinking about our brothers and sisters regularly.
One way that our Kollel can help our community maintain this awareness is by bolstering our ongoing connection with Am Yisrael. We are proud to launch a new series of conversations between our Kollel community and Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael. Over the coming weeks we will welcome (virtually) special guests from Israel to connect with our community in real time, to share their experiences. Through our participation, we can give them - and Am Yisrael - strength in return.
You will be able to join these special conversations in three ways:
