CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS KEDOSHIM

At a superficial glance, the Torah's commandment that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves seems peculiar and virtually impossible. How can a Jew from Yemen be expected to love a Jew from Belgium, when the two have so completely different customs, mentalities, and attitudes? How can a "Chossid" love a "Litvak" when the two have been arguing for centuries already about the proper way to serve HaShem? How can a religious Jew love a secular Jew when the two differ on so many basic issues?

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Three of Week 2: Tiferet of Gevurah 10th Day of the Omer THURSDAY NIGHT/FRIDAY

Not just love but compassion has to drive discipline. Love comes from recognizing one's merits and positive qualities (discipline channels and directs those strengths and weeds out the negative). Compassion is unconditional love. It is love just for the sake of love, not considering the others position. Tiferet is a result of total selflessness in the eyes of G-d. You love for no reason; you love because you are a refelection of G-d.

Does my discipline have this element of compassion?

Exercise for the day: Be compassionate to someone you have reproached.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Two of Week 2: Gevurah of Gevurah 9th Day of the Omer WENSDAY NIGHT/THURDAY

Examine the discipline factor of discipline. Is my discipline disciplined or is it excessive. Do I have enough discipline in my life and in my interactions? Am I organized? Is my time used efficiently? Why do I have problems with discipline and what can I do to enhance it? Do I take time each day for personal accounting of my schedule and accomplishments? Does my discipline include the other six aspects, without which discipline cannot be effective and healthy?

Exercise for the day: Make a detailed plan for spending your day and at the end of the day see if you've lived up to it.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day One of Week 2: Chesed of Gevurah 8th Day of the Omer TUESDAY NIGHT/WENSDAY

Week Two - Gevurah

If love (chesed) is the bedrock of human expression, discipline (gevurah) is the channels through which we express love. It gives our life and love direction and focus. Take a laser beam: Its potency lies in the focus and concentration of light in one direction rather than fragmented light beams dispersed in all different directions.

Gevurah - discipline and measure - concentrates and directs our efforts, our love in the proper directions. Another aspect of gevurah is - respect and awe. Healthy love requires respect for the one you love.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Seven: Malchut of Chesed 7th Day of the Omer MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY

Mature love comes with - and brings - personal dignity. An intimate feeling of nobility and regality. Knowing your special place and contribution in this world. Any love that is debilitating and breaks the human spirit is no love at all. For love to be complete it must have the dimension of personal sovereignty.

Exercise for the day: Highlight an aspect in your love that has bolstered your spirit and enriched your life - and celebrate.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Six: Yesod of Chesed 6th Day of the Omer SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY

For love to be eternal it requires bonding. A sense of togetherness which actualizes the love in a joint effort. An intimate connection, kinship and attachment, benefiting both parties. This bonding bears fruit; the fruit born out of a healthy union.

Exercise for the day: Start building something constructive together with a loved one.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Five: Hod of Chesed 5th Day of the Omer MOTZI SHABBOS/SUNDAY

You can often get locked in love and be unable to forgive your beloved or to bend or compromise your position. Hod introduces the aspect of humility in love; the ability to rise above yourself and forgive or give in to the one you love just for the sake of love even if you're convinced that you're right. Arrogant love is not love.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Four: Netzach of Chesed 4th Day of the Omer FRIDAY NIGHT/SHABBOS

Is my love enduring? Does it withstand challenges and setbacks? Ups and downs of life. How much am I ready to fight for the love I have? Does my love have spirit and valor?

Exercise for the day: Do something that takes fight for a loved one.

THE SON WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO ASK
Reb Moshe says the son who does not know how to ask does not lack the intellect to ask, but the interest to ask. Therefore, you open up the conversation with him, explaining the profound significance of the mitzvos which he regards with such indifference. Let him know that it is fact because of the mitzvos that G-d took us out of Egypt.

J I AND JMR A Kumzitz in the Rain – SAMPLER

This year a new album is coming out. It’s beauty lies in its pure vocals harmonizing the songs that have been inspiring the Jewish nation for decades. This sefira, prepare to be inspired by “A Kumzitz in the Rain.” The album name plays on the Yiddish word for “pure:” Rain. The name also evokes the inspiration found in real kumzitzin sung in the darkest hours of am yisroel’s existence.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Three: Tiferet of Chesed 3rd Day of the Omer THURSDAY NIGHT/FRIDAY

There is love and there is beautiful love. True love includes empathy and compassion which makes it a beautiful love. Love is often fostered in expectation of reciprocity. Real love is expressed even when one gets nothing in return; even when the other doesn't deserve love. Tiferet is giving also to those that have hurt you. It acknowledges the discipline of gevurah and says that, nevertheless, compassionate love calls for helping all.

Exercise for the day: Offer a helping hand to a stranger.

DIVAR TORAHS ON THE HAGGADAH 5771(2011) PART 2

The Haggadah says," Come let us act cunningly with the people." There was a non-Jew who knocked at the door of Noda bYehuda. Rabbi you probably you don't remember me. My father owned a bakery when I was a child and he was an angry man. He went to sell bread and he lost the money he earned. You Rabbi saw my plight and gave me the exact amount of money I lost. Now I own the bakery and I'm here to tell you a plot of the non-Jewish bakers. Since all the Jews go to the bakery after Pesach, the non-Jews put arsonic poison in their bread.Noda Byehuda made an announcement in the shul, we made a mistake today is the 7th day of Pesach not the 8th. The non-Jewish bakers went to jail all because of Noda Byehuda thoughtful gesture and saved the entire kehilla of Prague.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day Two: Gevurah of Chesed 2nd Day of the Omer WENSDAY NIGHT/THURSDAY

Healthy love must always include an element of discipline. A degree of distance and respect for the other. An assessment of the persons capacity to contain your love. Love must be tempered and directed properly. Ask a parent who in the name of love has spoiled his child; or someone who suffocates their spouse with love and doesn't allow her any space of her own. Love with discretion is necessary to avoid giving to those that don't deserve it.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer Day One: Chesed of chesed 1st Day of the Omer TUESDAY NIGHT/WENSDAY

Week one - Chesed

Love is the single most powerful and necessary component in life. Love is the origin and foundation of all human interactions. It is both giving and receiving. It allows us to reach above and beyond ourselves. To experience another person and to allow that person to experience us. It is the tool by which we learn to experience the highest reality - G-d. In a single word: love is transcendence.

Spiritual Guide to the Omer INTRODUCTION

With the mitzvah of counting the 49 days, known as Sefirat Ha'Omer, the Torah invites us on a journey into the human psyche, into the soul. There are seven basic emotions that make up the spectrum of human experience. At the root of all forms of enslavement, is a distortion of these emotions. Each of the seven weeks between Passover and Shavuot is dedicated to examining and refining one of them.

BAIS HAVAAD ON THE PARSHA SPECIAL EDITION PESACH MY PESACH SHARES IN GENERAL MILLS

Aside from the prohibition against consuming or having pleasure from Chametz on Pesach, the Torah prohibits us from even owning the Chametz during this holiday. In addition, in order to strengthen this prohibition, the Rabbis instituted a law that any Chametz that is owned by a Jew over Pesach may not be enjoyed after Pesach. This opens up a myriad of Halachic concerns to the average Jewish consumer. Are we then not allowed to purchase Chametz items from companies which are Jewish but do not observe the laws of Pesach? How about a publically traded company? Does the ownership of minority shareholders constitute Halachic ownership? If I own stock in Nabisco or General Mills, Must I sell those shares prior to Pesach? How about Ribbis

concerns or the fact that a company is open on Shabbos?

This week's journal will focus on the Halachic status of a corporation and other legal entities.

[chicago-aneinu] Please Daven

Please daven for Dovid ben Shura, who was just diagnosed with a brain tumor, and will be spending Pesach in the hospital.

BRESLEV.CO.IL ON PESACH

RABBI LAZER BRODY AND MORE ON PESACH

RABBI LAZER BRODY ON SHABBOS HAGADOL

A precondition of freedom is to break the chains that enslave us. Oftentimes, the ideological and mythical chains that bind our minds subdue a person much more than the heaviest iron chains can. Why? Iron chains can restrict a body but ideological and mythical chains restrict the mind.

The worst form of slavery is slavery of the mind, when a person’s mind is subjugated and he loses his G-d given freedom of choice.

Shabbat HaGadol, the Great Sabbath, is the Sabbath that precedes Passover. Shabbat HaGadol symbolizes the breaking of slavery’s chains that enables us to walk forth in complete freedom on Passover.

CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS Acharei Mos

The task of the "designated man" is tremendously important, namely, to lead the scapegoat to the desert. The entire atonement of the people of Israel is dependant on the "designated man" doing his job properly. Yet, the designated man is an unsung hero, a simple Jew, and not necessarily a Cohen. There is no record anywhere in Jewish historical or holy texts of a scapegoat escaping from the designated man, or of a designated man not doing his job properly.
