Please daven for one of our cholim, Tzirel Rochel bas Chana Shaindel, who is in urgent need of tehillim.

[chicago-aneinu] Community Alert!

This past Friday night there was a hate crime at the location of Chippewa Park in West Rogers Park. A group of young men threatened a frum man walking through the park about 1:00 AM. When another frum person yelled at them to leave the man alone, they left, threatening to come back and damage his house. They returned minutes later in a 2006-2008.silver Nissan Murano. 3 men left the car, as the driver of the car cruised down the street. The 3 men tried to identify the home of the person who had yelled at them, and then threw a very large rock through the window of a house across from the park. Please stay alert, especially this Friday night, and report any suspicious behavior to the police. --

Yedid Nefesh by Danny Finkelman (Producer), Bentzy Marcus (Singer), Dovid Dachs (Singer)

The song, titled Yedid Nefesh, features an original song composed by Danny Finkelman performed by Bentzi Marcus of 8th Day and Dovid Dachs. Yedid Nefesh features footage of the events that led up to the miscarriage of justice that is known as the Rubashkin case: Rubashkin’s first arrest on charges of violating immigration and child labor laws, the largest immigration raid ever conducted in the United States at the Postville, Iowa Agriprocessors plant and Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin’s second arrest on charges of financial fraud, resulting in an unusually harsh sentence of twenty seven years in prison. The words “yedid nefesh” literally mean “a friend of the soul”, a description that literally defines Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, as he treated thousands of people he never even met as true friends, both in the way he conducted his business and his personal life. Yedid Nefesh focuses on the outrage, indignation and tremendous unity that has swept through the entire Jewish community in response to the case, which was perhaps, unknowingly, Sholom Rubashkin’s ultimate Game Plan.

A short Insight into Joshua, Chapter 4 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller

The gemora in Sotah (35b) tells us that there were three sets of stones described in Sefer Devarim and in our perek at the beginning of Sefer Yehoshua. One set Moshe Rabbeinu established in the land of Moav. One set Yehoshua placed in the midst of the Jordan River. The third set was placed at Gilgal. The Maharsha explains that stone represents a foundation, a fundamental. Three sets of stones were needed to emphasize the importance of three concepts fundamental to our faith: 1) Torah is from G-d . 2) Hashem's constant supervision and involvement in this world in natural and supernatural ways. 3) There are rewards and punishments for our deeds.

A short Insight into YEHOSHUA, Chapter 3 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller

In today's perek we read about the Bnei Yisroel's miraculous crossing of the Jordan River – finally entering Eretz Yisrel after forty years in the desert. In possuk 13 we read, “It was when the soles of the feet of the kohanim – carriers of the ark of G-d, Master of the Earth – touched the waters of the Jordan that the waters split ...” When comparing the splitting of the Jordan River with the Splitting of the Sea when Bnei Yisroel came out of Mitzrayim, we remember that only after Nachshon ben Aminadav had jumped into the Sea and cried out “G-d, save me, for the waters have reached my soul” did the sea split.

A short Insight into YEHOSHUA, Chapter 2 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller

In this perek we learn about the oath that the two spies, Kaleiv and Pinchas, swore at the behest of Rachav. In recognition of the chesed that she had shown them, she wanted them to swear to do the chesed of sparing her father, mother, brothers and sisters when Bnei Yisroel would be conquering Yericho. While dealing with an interesting question, Rabbi Yitzchok Zilberstein (Aleinu L'shabeich 3,714) mentions the Malbim's opinion with regard to this oath

BAIS HAVAAD ON THE PARSHA 5772 PARSHAS TOLDOS AQUIRING FUTURES

In this week's parsha we read about the episode where Eisav sold his firstborn rights to Yaakov. As the rishonim explain, Eisav sold his extra portion of inheritance that every firstborn is entitled to. The rishonim question how such a transaction was valid considering that Eisav was in effect selling something that he had not yet acquired. This seems to contradict the rule that one cannot sell a Davar Shelo Ba LeOlam. Tur, in the name of his father Rabbeinu Asher (Rosh), answers that since Eisav had sworn his commitment to the transaction he was fully aware and cognizant of what he was doing. In this instance he was indeed able to sell it even though it was not yet his. CLICK HERE FOR PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION

CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS TOLDOS

Yitzchak (Isaac) sowed in that land, and in that year reaped a hundredfold (Bereishit 26:12). Rashi comments on the above passage and explains that the people of that generation used to remark that the manure of Yitzchak's mules was better than Avimelech's gold and silver. Strange, who would prefer manure to gold and silver? In order to understand the depth of the above saying, which in effect summarizes the difference between our forefathers and their foreign contemporaries,

JEWISH THANKSGIVING BY RABBI ARUSH TRANSLATED BY RABBI LAZER BRODY

Rabbenu Nachman of Breslev teaches us that both Shabbat and Chanuka are aspects of the World to Come. Since the main occupation of the souls in the spiritual world is to sing songs of thanks to Hashem, when we do the same down here, we elevate ourselves to the level of the World to Come. That’s why our souls feel so good on Chanuka. A Jew should pray for one thing only and say: “Hashem, I have one request from You: Grant me the privilege of thanking You.”

BAIS HAVAAD ON THE PARSHA 5772 PARSHAS CHAYEI SARAH

At the end of this week's Parsha the Torah mentions that Avrohom Avinu gave gifts to the children of Keturah thereby excusing himself from having to give them any other inheritance. He did so because he wanted to give the vast majority of his inheritance to Yitzchok Avinu, his chosen child. The commentaries question how Avrohom Avinu was permitted to redirect his inheritance as doing so is forbidden by Rabbinic law. If Avrohom Avinu's act truly constituted a violation of redirecting inheritance this would seemingly contradict the teaching that Avrohom Avinu kept all the mitzvos, both Biblical and Rabbinic. The Daas Zekainim Mi'baalei Tosfos explains that Avrohom Avinu actually gave away the vast majority of his possessions to Yitzchok before the children of Ketura were even born. As such, no prohibition was truly violated. This week's journal will discuss the laws of redirecting one's inheritance. Click here to listen to this week's feature audio shiur by Rav Yehoshua Grunwald, Disinheriting a Yoresh Parshas Chayei Sarah 5772: Modifying the Order of Inheritance

CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS CHAYE SARAH

And the man took a golden nose ring…and two bracelets…And he asked, "Whose daughter are you?" (Bereishit 24: 22-23). The Torah tells us in the above passage that Eliezer gave Rivka (Rebecca) the jewelry before he verified her identity. How did he take such a risk? Later, when he spoke to Rivka's father and brother, he was forced to alter the story so that they wouldn't accuse him of arranging a match for his master's son with a girl "off the street" of unknown origin. How was Eliezer so sure that Rivka was the righteous intended bride for Yitzchak (Isaac)? With Hashem's loving guidance,

1.THE HALACHOS WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING FOR MONTHS ARE NOT RELEVANT NOWADAYS BUT BECHOR OF A CHID AND EVEN BECHOR OF AN ANIMAL IS RELEVANT NOWADAYS. 2.IMPORTANT LESSON OF BECHOROS EVERYTHING COMES FROM HASHEM. 3.THE MEFORSHIM ASK WHY IS THE SALE OF A JEWS ANIMAL TO A GOI AND GOOD SALE SHOULDNT IT BE A BAD SALE?BY A FINANCIAL PROBLEM ITS A BAD SALE HERE ITS NOT A FINANCIAL PROBLEM. 4.THE MEFORSHIM SAY GOI WANTS TO SELL HIS ANIMAL TO A JEW TOSFOS SAYS THERE NO KINAS THE ANIMAL IS SHOMER SHABBOS BUT RASHI SAYS THERE IS SHOULD BE KINAS BETTER BUY FROM A JEW BUT YOUR GIVING THE ANIMAL KIDUSHA NO KINAS.RAV ZILBERSTEIN SAYS BUY ANIMAL FROM A JEW SUPPORTING YOUR FELLOW JEW IS A MITZVA DIURISSA. 5.DO YOU HAVE TO BUY AN ANIMAL TO FULFILL THE MITZVA(KIUMIS)SO ITS SHOMER SHABBOS?RASHI SAYS YES BUT TOSFOS IS NOT SURE.ITS B/4B PESACH YOU HAVE NO CHAMETZ IN YOUR HOUSE BUY SOME FOR THE MITZVA OF TASHBISU AND THATS WHY WE PUT OUT 10 PIECES OF BREAD FOR BIDIKAS CHAMETZ.WE SEE FROM THIS YOU SHOULD PUT YOURSELF IN A SITUATION TO DO A MITZVA KIUMIS. 6.THE MFORSHIM ASK WHY ISNT IT A PROBLEM OF LIFNA IVER FOR THE GOI TO HAVE A GOI SWEAR TO HIS AVODA ZARA?THERE NO LFNA IVER FOR A GOI. 7.HOW CAN A JEW PARTNER WITH A ACUM? THE SWEARING ISUR IS DIRABANAN.ANOTHER ANSWER THERE IS NO ACUM NOWADAYS THEY BELIEVE IN GOD BUT HAVE SHITUF(PARTNERSHIP)THERE NO ISUR OF SHTUF BY A GOI. 8.WHY DOSNT AN ACUM HAVE TO SACRIFICE HIS MONEY NOT TO DO AN AVARA HERE.THIS ONLY APLLIES TO JEWS NOT AN ACUM. 9.A JEW SHOULD ALWAYS AVOID SWEARING AS WE SEE FROM THIS STORY.THE CHAVAS DAS WAS BROUGHT TO BAIS DIN FOR STEAlING AND HE SAID SWEAR YOU DIDNT STEAL IT.THE CHAVAS DAS SAID ILL PAY YOU HALF NO 3 QUARTERS NOT TO SWEAR.THE OTHER GUY SAID STILL SWEAR AND SO THE CHAVAS DAS WENT INTO THE CORNER AND STARTED CRYING(THEY DIDNT KNOW WHO HE WAS).ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE GUY IN THE WAGON FAINTED HE STOLE THE MONEY.SO WE SEE FROM HERE A JEW SHOULD EVEN AVOID A SHEVUAS EMES.
