A: Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Agishtein responds: The best thing to do is to place a bookmark or a tissue between the pages so that the words are already broken up before Shabbos. If one forgets to do this before Shabbos, then if one has another copy of the same book, it would be preferable to avoid using it.
If none of the above apply then one can be lenient and use the book for two reasons: - Everything was already written, opening and closing the book is merely an act of distancing and bringing the existing print together.
- The writing is not being erased every time the book is opened, it is merely switching back and forth between two states, similar to why opening and closing a door is not considered building and dismantling.
