A short Insight into YEHOSHUA, Chapter 22 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller
As Yehoshua gives a parting motivational speech, chizzuk, to the sh'vatim of R'uvein, Gad and part of the sheivet of Menashe, he bids them “to serve Hashem with all of your hearts.” The Mei'am Lo'eiz understands this as Yehoshua hinting to them to also daven with concentration and focus. He tells them that since they will be living outside of Eretz Yisroel their t'filla stands in place of the T'midin, the daily sacrifces offered in Israel. Unquestionably, the Mei'am Lo'eiz points out, the two and a half sh'vatim would be sending in their half shekel contributions each year for the Daily Sacrifice and for the other public sacrifices. Despite this, he offers, since these sacrifices were not brought in their land, they needed an additional z'chus – a z'chus of a powerful daily t'filla.
The Mei'am Lo'eiz shares a parable concerning how fortunate we are to be able to offer shevach, praises, to the Melech Malchei ha'M'lachim, to the King of all Kings, Himself
