Hagaon HaRav Refoel Shmuelevitz Shlita, one of the Roshei Yeshiva in Mir Yerushalayim was rushed to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Rav Refoel Shmulevitz was diagnosed with ALS approximately four years ago, and was given two to four years to live. He lost the ability to talk clearly and was confined to a wheelchair. Not long after, YWN reported that a new experimental treatment for MS (multiple sclerosis) and ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) was giving Rav Rafael Shmulevitz hope.
The story went viral on media outlets worldwide, and Rav Shmulevitz was interviewed on Israeli TV – and shown walking around (see video below).

Unfortunately, his condition has deteriorated, and Tehillim was being recited in the Mir Yerushalayim Bais Medrash on Sunday.
Rav Refoel is a son of Hagon HaRav Chaim Shmulevitz ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim. He is well-known as one of the most brilliant Torah minds of the generation. Rav Refoel is one of the few individuals tasked with reviewing the monumental Encyclopedia Talmudis, whose volumes do not go to print without his review and approval.
Please say Tehillim for Refoel ben Chana Miriam.
