Subject: [chicago-aneinu] A response to the Monsey Attack

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims and families affected by the attack in Monsey this past weekend.  We would also like to thank the first responders who were at the scene following yesterday's tragedy, as well as those who respond to these unfortunate situations every day.

Community Safety Network never endeavors to take advantage of a tragedy.  However, we feel that with all the attacks that have occurred in the past several weeks, it is necessary for us to stress the importance of being prepared and aware of your surroundings.

One of the main motives behind the creation of CSN was to help prepare the community against such threats.  While law enforcement does an excellent job in apprehending an individual perpetrator, they cannot be everywhere.  We are fortunate that the 24th district has established a Places of Worship Safety Advisory Team with Officers Heath and Specht.  However, we must take responsibility for ourselves and our families.  CSN serves to help empower everyone to be confident in handling an active threat situation, if one were to G-d forbid occur.

It is for this reason that CSN has created a Greeter and Active Threat Presentation.  We have been working closely with local law enforcement to create uniform training programs across the communities. Every Shul should have an emergency operation plan and a team to carry it out.  It cannot be one or two individuals; it must be a team of people.  Further, CSN has implemented a radio communication network for participating shuls to stay connected during an emergency.

There are many ways that you can help the community. You can volunteer as a greeter at your shul or become a member of an emergency response team to take a proactive approach in preventing such tragedies from occurring.  You can learn how to use an AED and tourniquet, or even become an EMT to help respond during an emergency.  We are proud to announce that CSN now has American Heart Association certified BLS CPR instructors and will be offering regular CPR classes in 2020.
The programs and events hosted by CSN would not be possible without your continuous support and financial contributions.  We ask for your help in raising money for CSN, so that we can continue aiding the community in preventing and responding to potential threats.  We would like to thank all of the individuals and organizations who have supported and contributed to CSN.

If your Shul is interested in hosting any Greeter, Active Threat, CPR or Stop the Bleed Presentations, please contact us at info@csnchicago.org.  If you are interested in donating, please visit us at csnchicago.org.

We are all in this together as a community, CSN, CPD, CFD, Hatzalah and you.  Together, and with G-d's help, we can stop the threats.

Sincerely,

David Blumenthal
President, CSN
