Apparently, November has seen an increase in the number of computer users reporting an issue with their web browsers (Safari, Chrome, or Firefox). This just happened to a community member who alerted me to it. This is how it goes:
"Scareware is a form of malware which uses social engineering to cause shock, anxiety, or the perception of a threat in order to manipulate users into buying unwanted software." - Wikipedia
Can you imagine if these people used their brilliance for something positive and productive in the world? Well, until that happens...KNOW THIS:
Apparently, November has seen an increase in the number of computer users reporting an issue with their web browsers (Safari, Chrome, or Firefox). This just happened to a community member who alerted me to it. This is how it goes:
A pop-up alert window appears claiming that your computer may have been hijacked or that there is a "major security issue." The window may have a phone number to call...
DO NOT CALL THE PHONE NUMBER LISTED and DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING on the page - DO NOT share your personal information with anyone to get rid of these messages!
If you do call one of these phone numbers, you will more than likely be asked to install special software on your computer that will allow them to remotely access information on your computer and possibly compromise your system further!

"Right click on the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select Task Manager from the menu that appears. Under the processes tab you will see the apps that are currently running, which will include your web browser. Right click on the web browser entry and select "End Task" from the menu. This will close the browser."
