News from the Agudah:

  • Unfortunately, over the past weeks, there has been an uptick of COVID-19 cases in our communities. The Agudah reminds its constituents to adhere to the CDC's COVID-19 guidelines to prevent the spread of this disease. By taking the necessary precautions, you can keep your community safe. Click here to view the CDC's guidelines.

  • Agudath Israel leadership and the Yeshiva Services department participated in a meeting this morning with the New York City Department of Health.  They shared our mosdos' concerns regarding the current situation with yeshivos and Bais Yaakovs, and the COVID-19 spike. The Yeshiva Services department is also reaching out to mosdos to understand the situation "on the ground" and to see how best we can help. Are you in a position of leadership in a school and have had recent interactions with the NYC Department of Health? If you are able to share, please feel free to reach out to Rabbi Yehoshua Pinkus, director of Yeshiva Services, at yeshivaservices@agudah.org or at 212-797-9000, extension 323, to share your mosad's situation.

  • Bnos Agudath Israel's Aseres Yemei Teshuvah program for high school girls, Giving is Gaining, concludes tonight at 8:00 PM EDT with a presentation by Mrs. Nechama Denebo. See below for the full schedule and login information.

  • Not to worry, Bnos hasn't forgotten about your elementary-age girls. Bnos' Aseres Yemei Teshuvah program for younger girls, L'maanchah, is still going-on. See below for more information about this program.

  • Attention New Jersey residents: The New Jersey legislature's budget proposal has substantial increases to yeshiva funding. It is important that they hear from their constituents to sustain the increases and ensure they remain in the final version of the budget. You can see a more detailed letter from our New Jersey Office released below and can contact your representatives here.

  • Finally, the Torah Projects Commission's series on Tefilos Yom Kippur: Teshuvah, Tefilah, Tzedakah concludes tonight at 10:00 PM EDT with a shiur by Rabbi Betzalel Rudinsky on Tefilas Neilah. See below for login information.

For New Jersey Residents

New Jersey Office
Dear Friends,

The State of New Jersey is facing a $6 billion deficit due to the coronavirus pandemic, and there were concerns that nonpublic school funding would face severe cuts in the coming budget.

We are therefore cautiously optimistic with the budget the legislature has proposed to the Governor as there are increases in three key areas. Specifically,

·      Nonpublic school security funding was increased from $150 per student to $175 per student.
·      Nonpublic nursing funds was modestly increased from $97 per student to $102 per student.
·      Importantly, the total allocation for nonpublic auxiliary services (special education) was substantially increased by $2.1 million.

However, the budget process is ongoing right now and legislators are scrutinizing every detail. Your help is needed to ensure that the increases are sustained in the final budget!

Please contact your legislator by clicking here to ask them to support these increases. The budget is up for a full vote in the Senate next Wednesday, September 30th so time of essence!

Thank you!

Warmest regards and best wishes for a Ksiva v'Chasima Tova,
