Dear Aneinu Members,

We are now in the midst of the painful story of Yosef Hatzaddik. At the tender age of 17, Yosef is sold by his brothers to a caravan of Yishmaelim, and ends up in Mitzraim. He undergoes many trials and tribulations, and manages to not only survive, but to triumph.

According to Rabbi Mendel Kessin shlita, it was necessary for Yosef to descend to Mitzraim to do battle with the Satan, in order to complete the tikkun of Eisav, which had been taken over by Yaakov when he acquired the birthright. That is why Yaakov was able to leave Lavan after Yosef was born. He knew that Yosef would be the one to complete the job.

Even though it was destined for Yosef to go down to Mitzraim, it is still unfathomable that it was his own brothers, the holy shevatim, who sent him there. They misjudged Yosef, and Klal Yisroel is suffering for their mistake until this very day. Many tragedies throughout the millenia have been attributed to the sale of Yosef, including the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash. It was sinas chinam, baseless hatred, that was the cause of the churban, and it was the baseless hatred of the brothers, toward their brother Yosef, that was the source.

It is our hope that the upcoming Aneinu event, " An Evening of Joyful Torah, Tefilla, & Togetherness"  on Motzei Shabbos, Jan 7 at 7:30 PM, will be a source of ahavas chinam, and we are hoping to have every part of our wonderful Chicago community of women represented. We hope this event will create feelings of love, respect, and connection, not only with each other, but with our loving Father in Heaven.

I hope you will all come, and, imy"H, soon our world will be filled with the glorious light of the revelation of Hashem's glory, with the coming of Mashiach and the geulah shlema.

Please remember to say your Tehillim this Shabbos (and every Shabbos!). As the days are now much shorter, it is perfectly fine to say your Tehillim on Friday night. You may check the Shabbos Tehillim spreadsheet if you are unsure which kappitlach you signed up for.

Wishing you all a beautiful Shabbos,
Chaya Miriam

Motzei Shabbos, Jan 7 at 7:30 at the DoubleTree Hotel 9599 Skokie Blvd.
Doors open 7:15 PM. No charge.
