New Law Improves Illinois Nonprofit Security Grant Program

House Bill 1187 (now Public Act 103-0418), which makes the Illinois Nonprofit Security Grant Program more accessible to organizations, and easier to apply for, was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker. One fundamental change that the act provides is allowing organizations to use a self-assessment tool for a vulnerability assessment, which is a requirement for the application. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is also now required to publicize funding opportunities as they become available. The application period will also be extended, with the possibility of additional application cycles. Additionally, IEMA staff is now required to provide assistance to applicants throughout the application process and in meeting post-reward requirements. Agudath Israel of Illinois (AIOI) thanks Senator Ram Villivalam and Representative Bob Morgan, as well as the other sponsors, and Governor Pritzker for signing the bill into law. AIOI also thanks the JUF and its Safeguard Coalition for working together, successfully advocating for both the program funding and the legislative enhancements.

Statement of Agudath Israel of Illinois on the Governor's Veto of Faith by the Plate

Agudath Israel of Illinois (AIOI) is disappointed with Governors Pritzker's veto of legislation that would have paved the way for students, hospital patients, and incarcerated individuals to access meals that comply with their religious dietary restrictions. House Bill 3643 would have made Illinois the first state in the country to mandate such accommodations and had the potential to demonstrate the state's commitment to embracing diversity and inclusion in all its forms. AIOI has worked closely with stakeholders to ensure all faith-based communities have access to food that complies with their religious convictions and remains committed to achieving that goal.

Complete and bring the booklet into the library by August 20th and you will receive a ticket to be entered into an exciting raffle!
