Update on Rescuer Menashe Kalifa

Baruch Hashem, rescuer Menashe [ben Shulamit] Kalifa, 41, is breathing unassisted, doctors in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital report, but they add his condition is still quite serious and he is in need of Am Yisrael’s tefillos. Kalifa remains in an intensive care unit but has been taken off mechanical respiratory assistance.

Kalifa jumped into the Ramat Eshkol manhole last week in an effort to save 3-year-old Rachel Sofer A”H.

The physician who pronounced Kalifa dead, Dr. Rach, who also prevented advanced life support resuscitation on Rachel, has been to appear before MDA Director-General Bin today, Monday, with Bin promising a thorough investigation into the matter in light of mounting public criticism of the physician’s handling of the case.
