Dear Aneinu Members,
In this week's parsha, Vayechi, Yaakov Avinu gives Shechem to Yosef, "which I took from the Amorite with my sword and with my bow." According to Onkelos this means, "with my prayer and with my supplication."
Prayer, the fixed tefillos that we say every day, and supplication, our personal tefillos. Both are vital in our service of Hashem. When we daven or say Tehillim we need to remember how much our tefillos can accomplish, and the more concentration and focus we put into them, the more powerful they become.
When we pray with the realization that we have only our Father in Heaven to rely on, we can move mountains. It was this realization that caused the Jews in Mitzraim to cry out to Hashem and ultimately bring about their redemption. So too, let's grab onto our father Yaakov's 'sword and bow" and cry out to Hashem to bring an end to the darkness and swiftly bring us the geulah shlema.
