Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Update for Simcha Dov Ber ben Chaya Freida (Kossowsky)

Update for Simcha Dov Ber ben Chaya Freida (Kossowsky)

Second day Yomtov was quite eventful here. We kept only one day but it was still pretty magical.
Hour by hour it was actually quite difficult but as I summarize it for you after the fact, it was quite a spiritual day!

Shira, our personal Angel, the nurse (She is the nurse from the previous day who was crying when she saw Simcha Dov crying) told me that the head of the department is opposed to doing the trach procedure in that room that we are in and requires the patient to go into the OR.

Given the holidays and current state of affairs in the hospital the OR would not be available for another week which would require Simcha Dov to be intubated and sedated for this entire time. Shira really did not want Simcha Dov to be sedated any longer and did everything she could for him to prepare that the trach could happen today.

Hashem sent Dr. Zigleman to be the doctor today (Shira's words not mine, even though she does not appear to be even slightly religious) he is not a regular on this ward but does come periodically. Dr. Zigleman is a veteran Doctor who has done this procedure hundreds of times and has been a deputy of the department as well and therefore didn't care about the current head of department's opinion and performed the procedure at his bedside in under a half hour and now we have been able to take Simcha Dov off the sedation and hopefully have him in his own room tomorrow.

Updates for Simcha Dov Ber ben Chaya Freida (Kossowsky)

1st-update
It looks like Simcha Dov has a pretty severe case of pneumonia that will take a while to clear up. They are assuming it will be a week or more. Nothing can be done until Sunday as the hospital is more or less closed up to to the holidays and all of the main doctors won't be in until then. Simcha Dov will continue to be in this post operation recovery room which precludes us from being able to stay with him or spend more than five minutes here and there as there are other patients there and it's just one giant room.
They will not be able to take out the intubation tube until the infection is cleared up. This is going to be a longer project than anticipated. :(
Aliza and I will need to figure out how we will spend as much time with him as possible as this is the first time we have ever left him in someone else's care since this whole thing has started.

2nd update
Aliza went to visit today and they feel that Dovy is beginning to become agitated by the intubation tube and therefore they have increased the sedation and Simcha Dov is really not very aware when we come to visit. They plan on keeping him this way until Sunday when they will redo the blood test to see if the infection has improved.

Therefore, Aliza and I will be staying home and will go back to the hospital on motzai Shabbos.

Psalms/

1) For the musician, with musical accompaniment on the sheminis instrument, a mizmor by David. (2) Hashem, don't rebuke me in Your anger. Don't chastise me in Your rage. (3) Grant me Your mercy, Hashem, for I have been cut down. (4) Heal me, Hashem, for my bones shake with terror. My soul is utterly terrified, and You Hashem — How long? (5) Turn back, Hashem, release my soul. Save me as befits Your kindness ... (6) for there is no mention of You in death. In the grave who will thank You? (7) I am exhausted from groaning; every night my bed is drenched; with my tears I soil the place where I have lain.  (8) My eye is dimmed from anger, aged by all my tormentors. (9) Depart from me all wrongdoers, for Hashem has heard the sound of my weeping. (10) Hashem has heard my plea; Hashem will accept my prayer. (11) They will be ashamed and will be utterly astounded. When all my enemies return, they will be ashamed for a while.

(1) For the musician, a mizmor by David. (2) May Hashem answer you on the day of distress. May the Name of Yaakov's G-d protect you. (3) May He send your help from the Mikdash; may He support you from Tzion. (4) May He give consideration to all your minchah-offerings. May He accept your olah-offerings, Selah. (5) May He grant you according to your heart. May He fulfill your every plan. (6) We will sing joyously because of your deliverance, and we will gather around banners in the Name of our G-d. May Hashem fulfill all your requests.  (7) Now I know that Hashem continues to save His anointed one. He will continue to answer from His holy heaven, with the mighty victories of His right hand. (8) Some [depend] on chariots, and some on horses. We call out the Name of Hashem, our G-d. (9) They slumped and fell, but we stood up and were empowered. (10) Hashem save! May the King answer us on the day we call.
