Please have extra Kavanah (concentration) for the situation in Ukraine.
Shabbat, July 9 –
Tehillim 130
How fitting it is that this psalm is part of the "Shir HaMa'alot" – "the songs of Ascent". Although David HaMelech begins by saying, "From the depths I have called out", this is actually the path to Ascent. We always call out from a position of humility.
We pray to Hashem that when we repent, the repentance should be accepted, for forgiveness is up to Hashem. Perhaps it is for this reason that we end our Selichot prayer with this psalm. We also add this psalm right after "Yishtabach" during the Ten Days of Repentance, beginning with Rosh Hashana.
This is a psalm that reflects part of the essence of the Day of Rosh Hashana.
Segula for this perek: To help escape from guards. (From the Sefer Shimush Tehillim attributed to Rav Hai Gaon (969 -1038).)
1. A song of ascents. From the depths I have called You Hashem.
2. O Lord, listen to my voice; may Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3. O God, if You keep [a record of] iniquities, O Lord, who will stand?
4. For forgiveness is with You, in order that You be feared.
5. I hoped, Hashem; yea, my soul hoped, and I wait for His word.
6. My soul is to the Lord among those who await the morning, those who await the morning.
7. Israel, hope to Hashem, for kindness is with the Lord and much redemption is with Him.
8. And He will redeem Israel from all their iniquities.
