Dear Aneinu Members,

B"H we have come this far. Soon we will all be sitting around our tables reliving the experience of Yetzias Mitzraim.

As we read the Hagaddah, we should all remind ourselves that the story of the Egyptian Exile began with Yosef. But why is Yosef not mentioned?

On Seder night we focus on inviting strangers to our Seder. We celebrate family togetherness. We feel concern for the suffering of others. However, Yosef reminds us of brothers who treated a family member with jealousy,  hatred and cruelty. We don't want to taint our seder with those negative feelings,  but we can't ignore Yosef altogether.  So we start the seder by dipping the karpas in salt water, to remind ourselves that the brothers dipped Yosef's coat in blood. The salt water symbolizes Yosef's tears when he was sold into slavery by his very own brothers. The meforshim tell us that Yosef cried all the way to Mitzraim.

As we dip the karpas into the salt water let's remember Yosef's pain and recommit ourselves to never causing pain to another, whether it be a family member, friend, or someone we interact with at the grocery store. In that zchus may we all be zoche to experience the complete geulah this year, and may all the tears that we have shed over the millennium turn to tears of joy and celebration as we experience the revelation of Hashem's glory,  as the world will be filled with light, love, and peace.

Please say your Tehillim on Shabbos.  If you also wish to say it on yontiff, that would be wonderful,  but as the days are very busy, it is not obligatory.
