A message from Rebbetzin Dr. Adina Shmidman
on the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu
Dear Friend,
As we observe the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu, we are reminded of her unwavering dedication to her children and our people. The image of Rachel weeping for her children is etched deeply into our souls. Her devotion to tefillah and her endless, heartfelt cries for her people exemplify the intensity and integrity that should inspire our own tefillos and blessings.
Rav Chaim Shmulevitz, speaking at Kever Rachel, recalled how Yirmiyahu urged Rachel to withhold her tears, מני קולך מבכי. Rav Chaim, addressing her in light of the tragedies facing the Jewish people, urged her instead to continue, saying, "I, your son Chaim, implore you to keep crying!" Today, we echo these words, as we face a turbulent world and tragedies beyond imagination.
Rachel's tears are a reminder of the urgency and passion we should bring to our own tefillah, especially in these times. As we daven today and every day, let us connect deeply and genuinely, carrying forward her legacy.
May we see the fulfillment of the words of Yirmiyahu, when Rachel's tears will be dried and וְשָׁ֥בוּ בָנִ֖ים לִגְבוּלָֽם, Your children shall return to their land.
With heartfelt tefillos for the גאולה שלמה,
