In this week's Parsha, The Torah writes the second portion of krias shema. Additionally, within this second chapter of shema, according to the opinion of the Rambam, the Torah commands us to pray a prayer every day. These commandments are the primary sources of the three daily prayers that we pray.
Hagaon Reb Chaim Kanievsky Shlit"a writes in his work Archos Yosher, that it is vitally important to be very familiar with the laws of prayer, being that they pertain to our daily obligations. He adds, that we can compare one who is ignorant in these laws to one that was chosen to be the king's closest servant but then failed to inquire about the protocol that he was to follow when serving the king. Certainly he would be dismissed and possibly punished. We too were chosen to serve Hashem daily with our prayers and we must be familiar with the laws of prayer.
We can add, that perhaps this is the explanation of the Divine providence that the Daf Yomi cycle begins tractate Berachos, the tractate that discusses all the laws of prayer, during the week when we read this parsha.(AUDIO HERE)
