Q. I am an adult diabetic. May I take a non-chewable tablet for my diabetes during Pesach? (A Subscriber’s Question)
A. As an introductory comment, one should exercise extreme caution and consult with a doctor and rabbi before considering any changes in medication for Pesach.
Known and tested medications in the form of non-chewable and non-candy coated pills may be owned, used and consumed on Pesach, even if they contain chametz and kitniyot, since they are inedible. This covers most medicines used by adults. If possible, it is preferable to procure a new container of pills before Pesach that had not been handled during the year together with chametz.
