New Year, New Resolve: Commit to Daily Learning as Zechus for Sweet 5780!
In less than 24 hours, it will already be Rosh Hashanah!
The gedolei Yisroel have some invaluable advice for us all: "Torah is the root of all mitzvos and maasim tovim," says HaRav Yeruchem Olshin shlit"a, Rosh Yeshiva, Bais Medrash Govoha of Lakewood. "A commitment to learn Torah is very choshuv by Hakadosh Baruch Hu." Torah brings merit and protection for he who toils in it and all those around him.
When Daf Yomi was instituted by the Agudah nearly a century ago, it completely transformed the relationship between yidden – especially working men – and Torah learning. For the first time in history there was a universal daily learning "program" followed by yidden around the globe, and attainable by all.
The Daf has grown exponentially, bli ayin hora, over the years. Over 350,000 yidden worldwide will iy"H celebrate The Siyum HaShas of Daf Yomi together in three months. But The Daf has accomplished even more than that. The notion of a daily kvi'us ittim is now ubiquitous. There are now a broad array of programs and sedarim in communities worldwide that facilitate a consistent learning schedule, whether through the learning of The Daf or another limud. Every yid can access one that best suits his schedule and learning preferences.
The new year, תש"פ, Tuf Shin Pei, is an acronym for "Torah She'baal Peh." Now is the ideal time for every yid to make a solid commitment to begin or enhance their daily Torah learning. In this zechus, may we all be zoche to a Shanah Tovah U'mesukah!
