COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall Meeting

Virtual Town Hall Meeting
Thursday, April 23 - 12 PM
Register at www.50thwardchicago.com/townhall

Dear Neighbor,

COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall

Despite all our collected efforts, confirmed cases of COVID-19 remain high in the 50th Ward. To help understand these numbers and learn what we can all do to flatten the curve, I am hosting a virtual Town Hall Zoom Meeting with a leading public health authority this Thursday, April 23 at noon.

Please join me and Dr. Jennifer Layden, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer at Chicago Department of Public Health, for the 50th Ward COVID-19 Town Hall. Register at www.50thwardchicago.com/townhall.

At the meeting, we will discuss the City's response to the coronavirus outbreak, with a focus on the high occurrence of confirmed cases in the 50th Ward. If you have any questions, you would like addressed, please email them in advance to info@50thwardchicago.com.

I hope to see you all on Zoom for this important meeting.

Make Your Own Face Mask

We get a lot of requests for face masks at the 50th Ward Office. I do have a limited number of masks that have been donated, which I am distributing to those in need. However, I would also like to encourage everyone to try making their own masks. It is very easy to do, and there are plenty of helpful guides online.
Alderman Debra Silverstein demonstrates how you can make your own face mask
It took me less than one minute to make the face mask in the video above, and no sewing or special skills were needed. You can find more detailed directions online here. Thank you to 50th Ward resident William Rivkin for sending me the instructions!

Many local organizations and residents are desperately in need of basic protective equipment. If you would like to donate homemade masks, please contact me at info@50thwardchicago.com so I can arrange for a pickup.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home!

Sincerely,

Debra L. Silverstein
Alderman, 50th Ward

Local Coronavirus Numbers

Health officials have begun releasing data by zip codes. These are the number of confirmed cases for the three zip codes that overlap the 50th Ward, as of April 20:
  • 60645 - 468
  • 60659 - 255
  • 60660 - 155
Confirmed cases have occurred in every zip code in Illinois. Data listed is based on the zip code of residence, which may not be the location of exposure.
