Today's storm hit our neighborhood hard. Trees have fallen throughout the Ward and many streets are blocked. Nearly 5,000 households here in the 50th ward are without power. I have been driving around to survey the damage, and unfortunately, the local toll is severe.
I want to assure everyone that both the Bureau of Forestry and ComEd are out in force to deal with the situation. Expect emergency crews to be working throughout the night to get our neighborhood up and running.
If your power is out, please report it to ComEd immediately. Residents can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report an outage and receive restoration information. You can also call 1-800 EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661), or report outages online at www.ComEd.com/report. Spanish-speaking customers should call 1-800-95-LUCES (1-800-955-8237).
If a tree is down on your block, please call 311 to report it as a Tree Emergency. The City depends on your report to direct forestry crews to the right location.
Please note: Forestry's first priorities are to clear blocked streets so emergency personnel can get through and to clear power lines so crews can restore electricity to homes. Once the emergency work is done, crews will begin removing the tree debris that litter the parkways and curb lanes.
I will continue to communicate with Forestry and ComEd until this situation is resolved. Thank you all for your patience as we repair the damage. Nature sometimes throws us for a loop, but I know that the 50th Ward can weather any storm.
