News from the Agudah:

  • We, together with the rest of the Torah community, were devastated at the loss of two great Gedolei Yisroel and ziknei rashei hayeshiva this week, HaRav Dovid Soloveitchik ZTL, Rosh HaYeshiva, Brisk, and HaRav Yitzchak Scheiner ZTL, Rosh HaYeshiva, Kaminetz, and member of Degel HaTorah's Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Eretz Yisroel.

  • HaRav Soloveitchik left thousands of talmidim to whom he was a conduit for the pure transmission of the Brisker derech halimud learned from his illustrious father, HaRav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik ZTL.

  • HaRav Scheiner, besides his gadlus b'Torah v'yirah, was also very close with the American Agudah – see below for a clip of him speaking at the 12th Siyum HaShas of Daf Yomi. The message resonates today as strongly as it did eight and a half years ago. Yehi zichrom boruch.

  • Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, MD ZL, was known for his pioneering work in addressing many of the Klal's challenges, sometimes at the podium of the Agudah Convention and in the pages of the Jewish Observer. His petirah this week, as well, leaves us reeling. We share below a timely message from Rabbi Twerski on the topic of intoxication on Purim originally delivered at the 2009 Agudah Convention. Yehi zichro baruch.

  • New York: Last week, the New York State Legislature held its annual joint Senate and Assembly budget hearings. Rabbi Yeruchim Silber, Director of New York Government Relations, testified on matters of concern to the Orthodox community, particularly in the wake of COVID-19. He addressed the impact that budget cuts would have on yeshivas and also emphasized how important autonomy in education is for yeshiva parents. Read his full testimony here.

  • Rabbi Shmuel Fuerst's halacha l'maaseh shiur will continue this Monday night (2/01/2021) and will be at 8:30 pm EST. The call in number is (518) 425-1725 and it will be on topics of refuah on Shabbos: Can one save someone on Shabbos who intentionally put his life at risk, requesting to know the gender of they baby, an eishes kohen in a hospital and beis hakvaros, and can one be mechalel Shabbos to obtain a refuah through a segulah

  • The Ben Yomo Kashrus Series: We are excited to share the 6th (and last!) part of Ki Heim Chayeinu's video series on kashering kitchens in conjunction with Daf Yomi's learning of the relevant sugyos, made with the Star-K.
