Many members of the community have reached out to Agudath Israel alarmed by recent announcements by the police, elected officials and communal security organizations concerning threats to the Chicago Jewish community this weekend. We are very appreciative of those that are taking measures to ensure all threats are taken seriously.  This latest threat is unfortunately neither rare nor unique to the Chicago Jewish community. In fact, threats of this nature are quite common. This new threat is not specific to Chicago; it is general in nature and applicable to all Jewish communities around the country. We must seek the proper balance between conducting our lives as usual while taking the proper precautions at the same time. This Shabbos, like every Shabbos, we should make sure to be vigilant. Every one of us must be aware of our surroundings at all times, taking note of any irregular or unusual activities, especially near our shuls and schools and report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities immediately. We are in constant contact with the various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and will share any relevant developments.  We should all continue to daven for the protection of HKB"H and be"H we should soon see the elimination of these threats to our community.
