BS"D

Dear Daveners,

Thank G-d all the interviews and medical tests are over for the time being, and I believe that the information has been or will be sent tomorrow to the Drug Company in CA that is developed and produced the medication I may be taking beginning 20-March.  The Drug Company has to decide whether it will accept me into the trial.

The trip went as well as it possibly could, thank G-d but here are some wonderful Yad Hashem anecdotes:

1.  When I arrived at JFK there was only one customs official dedicated to wheel chair passengers--as you can imagine the line was very long.  Finally a second window opened up and it seemed to be moving along quite well, and suddenly that custom's official announced that he was closing -- and that the woman immediately in front of me would be the last person he would take! So I was wheeled back to the other line which was now almost twice as long as it had been before.  I asked the person who was wheeling me to take me back to the other line because the custom's official was still there.  So, he did, and I called out to him explaining I'd come to the US for medical treatment and did not tthink I had the stamina to wait another 40 minutes.  So, he said "oh alright, hurry up I'll take you..  Anyway when we had been waiting in line I asked the young black man who was responsible for pushing me, what was his name. "Messiah"!  So I asked that was the name your mother gave you at your birth, "Yes"!  Hashem has a wonderful sense of humor right?

2.  So out we go and all of a sudden a beagle is next to me?  I said what's this I don't want a dog by me.  Then I had occasion to notice that at the other end of his leash stood a rather imposing custom's official.  He asked me whether I had brought food into the country.  I said yes, some cookies, pretzels and nuts.  So off we went and as we were going out the doors, I said to  myself, "oy I forgot I had an apple in my purse!!!!"

3.  I had gotten a call from Reb. Leah Finkel last week, after she had found out I had come here for treatment.  She told me her "baby sister" lives in Silver Spring, and that if I needed anything I should call her--Reb. Yaffa Lopiansky.  So I very much wanted to get my hosts a nice fleishig meal and of course had no idea where, what, etc.  I phoned her and she said there was a place in Rockville, but shse would call and call me back which she did.  When she called back she told me that I could call and place the order under her name because she would have one of the Yeshiva Bochurim pick it p--since they had no deliver service, and that is exactly what happened.

4.  The biggest Yad Hashem is that the company running this clinical trial held the slot open for me until I arrived and could be interviewed and tested, that it was here in a very physically pretty setting and I could stay with wonderful friends that I had known in Chicago.

Today, thank G-d, was a day with much less pain, first such day since I left israel--so much to be grateful for.  ---

RABBI ASHEAR TRANSCRIPT

The Salvations of Hashem

In the story of Purim, Haman sent out proclamations across the world, sealed with the royal signet ring, ordering everyone to rise up against the Jewish people and kill them, men, women and children. The Jews gathered together, fasted, made teshuva and cried out to Hashem. One moment they were wearing sackcloth and crying bitter tears, facing complete annihilation. And then, suddenly, the king ordered Haman to be hanged. Mordechai was appointed into his position. And in an instant, everything turned around. The Jews went from mourning to celebrating.

The salvations of Hashem are wondrous. One second it could look like a person is stuck with no way out and, a second later, Hashem opens His eyes and He finds the path. How fortunate we are to have Hashem who loves us so much and is ready and available to help us all the time. Amazing salvations take place every single day to thousands of people, we just don't hear about all of them. But when we do hear of how Hashem saves a person that seemingly was in a situation that seemed hopeless, it always gives us a lot of chizuk.

Rabbi Elimelech Biderman told a story that was told to him directly by the man it happened to. Last year, this man leased a 50 suite, five-story hotel in Prague along the Vltava river for Pesach. He borrowed money to pay the rent which he planned to repay as he rented out the rooms in the hotel. As the hotel was getting booked up, a major problem was discovered. The person who leased him the hotel was a crook. He was not the owner, he was an imposter, and he took off with the money and there was no way of getting it back.

The man called all the people who rented rooms and paid already, apologizing that he was scammed, and there was no hotel or trip. Naturally, they all demanded their money back. He explained he used it all to pay the rent and was left without any of it. He assured them that he would pay them back as soon as he could. The renters, thinking he kept the money for himself, were furious, calling him a thief. And they threatened to publicly humiliate and ruin his name. The word eventually got out and the humiliation was unbearable.

A friend of this man wanted to help him, and so he arranged for him and his wife to go to South Africa for Pesach. No one would know him there, and he would be able to celebrate Pesach with peace and quiet. At that hotel, they met another Jewish couple from Israel and they both wondered why each of them had traveled so far for the holiday.

On Chol HaMoed, the man was talking to the other man from Israel and they discussed what brought each of them there. The other man said he had been married for nine years without children. Every Yom Tov was a painful reminder of their situation. Pesach, in particular, was a time of heightened difficulty and humiliation for them. So that year they decided to spend Yom Tov somewhere where no one would know them. The first man then shared his troubles and revealed that he came there to escape the humiliation that he had been suffering. He added the following words, "Due to my shame, I understand that I have a power to give beracha. I give you my heartfelt wishes and blessings that you merit to have a child this year."

In response, the other man said, "I'm wealthy. If your blessing comes true, I will clear your debts."

Ten months later, this couple had a baby. And true to his word, he provided the necessary funds to clear the man's debts. Both of these individuals needed major salvations. Hashem brought them together on the other side of the world to make it happen. The yeshuot of Hashem are truly amazing.

Update from Devora bas Erika, Debby Mayer, loyt:

"Now my hishstadlus is to fly to NY to interview/apply to be accepted into a clinical trial (no open slots now) to vanquish the machla.

"I will IY"H be in NY from 5-Mar-2024 until 19-Mar-2024. I am begging Hashem to keep me calm because the thought of leaving EY and my family is scary and a complete anathema to me, but nu, nu.

"All this started just a week ago and it has been one miracle after another including but not limited to being approved for Medicare part B within less than 24 hours from the time I submitted the application — well, we know Who did that; and HE found me a place to stay on the upper West Side of Manhattan with a friend from many years ago. Now, He will help me work on getting me the interviews with the various clinical trial sites on the East Coast."

May Hashem bless her with koach and stamina and may this trip bezras Hashem be the conduit for needed refuos and yeshuos.

From Debby:

HASDEI HASHEM, with the greatest gratitude to the Borei Olam, the PET CT came back with good results.  By Hashem's tremendous rachomim, there was almost nothing left in pancreas, and only a little left in the liver.  I have a long way to go but this is an incredible start.  The person who called me with the results said that they were much better than had been expected after only 6 Chemo treatments.  I will have to remain on Chemo for several more months (not sure how many—I guess I'll find out when I meet with the oncologist on 29-Jun-2023), so please continue to daven and say tehillim for me.

I thank everyone who has been faithfully davening and saying tehillim for me—my gratitude to you is overflowing!

(5) Turn back, Hashem, release my soul. Save me as befits Your kindness ... (6) for there is no mention of You in death. In the grave who will thank You? (7) I am exhausted from groaning; every night my bed is drenched; with my tears I soil the place where I have lain.  (8) My eye is dimmed from anger, aged by all my tormentors. (9) Depart from me all wrongdoers, for Hashem has heard the sound of my weeping. (10) Hashem has heard my plea; Hashem will accept my prayer. (11) They will be ashamed and will be utterly astounded.
